Have I gone completely loony?

Sweet Sakura

Last week I sowed 12 containers. They were my first. I had to stop when I ran out of containers. I hadn't planned to do many more than that this winter, but then I joined seed exchanges and now I have about 70 varieties I want to plant.

I drink a lot of milk. But 2 gallons a week isn't going to get me nearly enough containers. I had one 2L bottle, and I really liked that container (better sized, and I like how it stays closed on its own, using Token's cutting strategy). I had one rectangular-cross-sectioned juice bottle that worked really well. The ridges in the bottle serve to "lock" it closed when cut in the 2L manner. Problem is, I don't drink soda, and only go through about one juice bottle every two weeks.

Here's where the loony-ness comes in. Tomorrow is trash pickup. So this evening I went for a walk around the neighborhood. While I haven't sunk to dumpster-diving, I did do some recycle-box-content nabbing. Covered 8-10 blocks, and scored 2 soda bottles and 6 juice bottles. Not as big a haul as I'd hoped, but good enough that I'll consider doing the same thing next week. So...have I gone crazy?

(An observation, from my not-very-scientific examination of my neighbor's bins: people don't use 2Ls anymore. They prefer the convenience of single-serving packaging. If you consider 20 oz. to be single-serving, that is.)

Oh, and it is COLD outside!
