K46 tranny - reduce wear by changing mowing pattern??

Just a tranny question I have been thinking about. I have seen a number of threads involving looseness or failure of the drive pulley where it mounts on the splined input shaft of the K46. Since the tranny acts as the brake in these LT's, it occurs to me that there would be a lot of extra burden on this pulley/shaft when the user is doing a lot of back and forth movement versus using mostly forward motion in their mowing pattern. In particular, I can mow with only a few places when I need to reverse, by the way I lay out the mowing pattern. On the other hand, I sometimes mow in a pattern that requires quite a bit of stopping and reversing. Obviously, the speed of stopping and reversing would also impact the load on this pulley. Is this something to pay attention to in normal use (reducing load on pulley) or just something for a fanatic to worry about at night? The machine in question is a JD LT160, 2001 with 185 perfect hours on it.
