Using Home Depot steer/chicken manure as compost for planting

Is it advisable to use HD manure as compost in planting?

I have been using one bag of manure plus some leaf mold per planting hole for 5 gal plants. I dug the hole about 2 times the size of the pot, then mix some of the dug out dirt with manure and leaf mold and use them for back fill.

I haven't witness any noticeable advantage in this practice vs using just dirt. I have heavy clay. Should I increase the amount of manure?
