Total newbie to AV

I have 'inherited' two plants bought from a hospital flower shop, so I have no idea what kind of soil they are planted in. We live in the south of Israel, where the humidity is between 10-15% at the most and the summer temperatures reach 40 degrees C. Which means AC all summer long and even less humidity in the house as a result. I thought about moving them into my bathroom, which has an eastern window and will be slightly more humid. I read one of the postings about misting them - if they get a good misting daily, might they be OK out in the living room, which faces south but doesn't get direct sun? I'd rather have them out there. My grandma in Minnesota had African Violets all my childhood but they are long gone.....

Thanks for any help!

Abby
