Hey everyone out there! I am just getting into African Violets and I am just falling in love with the Micro-mini's. I read up on the post from two years ago, but I figured I would open up a new post to see if anyone has anything new to say. I am really just wondering if anyone knows of any favorites or has any other suggestions on where I can get more ( yes, I've caught the bug already, I must have more, lol)

Look at the trades section here. I have Tiny Moon Goddess to offer. I think I saw your post on another site looking for micros. You have Rob's Twinkle Pink and Blue I recall.

A good source is Fay Wagman. Just do a search on the "mini" section of her website for "micro", and order some leaves.

I recommend keeping them under some kind of ventilated enclosure (like a clear plastic container with lots of holes) because they dry out fast.

Some small minis can be trained to become micros, just by keeping them in thumb pots. The reverse can happen too, some of my micros have grown out with bigger leaves. To maintain the micros, keep your pots tiny, no larger than about 2 inches.

Senk's FRUIT FLY is the tiniest micro I've seen. I tried to keep it but lost it last year to a mite attack.

Another very tiny micro is TEENY BOPPER, Rainbow Violets sells them often on Ebay, but you may be able to buy them directly from Nancy, she's one of my very favorite vendors and her plants are incredible (www.rainbowviolets.com) .

Others are LITTLE THORNBIRD, PIP SQUEEK (also available from Rainbow Violets), PIXIE RUNAROUND, AMOEBA, TUNDRA TRUMPETS, and Optimara has a series of micros that I'd love to get. There are many others. I used to have a list but I can't find it. If I do, I'll post it here.

If you love micro AVs, you will go nuts over micro sinningias! They're absolutely amazing. Dave's Violets sells some very nice plants.

shihtzu-4su, I understand your hubby’s concern. But Pip Squeek is so tiny (but demanding), he would not notice it (I am not suggesting a secrete trade though). Once it grows to be with half a dozen of leaves (1/4’ to 1/2” long) from a cutting, it behaves as a mature plant (1” high) starting to bloom. Talk to him, he would love it as well. If you are still interested, I will send a pair of cuttings to you for postage. By the coming fall, my Chantaspring will be ready for cutting. Let me know if you are interested. I do grow some plants of Lil Ballerina (mini). As having strict limitation to my growing space (my plants are now growing in 4” x 4” x 4” compartments), I can only grow microminis. Lil Ballerina is perhaps the largest plant in my collection. I am now looking for something such as: Tsunami, Midget series, Senk’s Fruit Fly, Vallarta Campanas Moradas, Flashy Trail, Lilla Blaklockan. I understand some of them are on eBay, but I have not had a luck, instead with growing interests in trade so that I could talk with other growers on those little guys. Anyway, those tiny guys generally require more of our attention. But once you grow them, you will see how attached you grow to them. Let me know.

I grow mine in a open topped glass vase on long fibered sphagnum moss with a drainage layer of large perlite. They also do well growing in a pocket of sphagnum that is tucked into a nook on the back vertical wall of a terrarium. I have S. pusilla in a non vented glass container with a lid and they do very well in there. I find that there are no problems with mildew etc even without air flow. As long as the growing medium does not dry out they are not difficult to grow. Even if they do dry out as long as they are mature enough they will have formed tubers and they will resprout if you don't leaves them dry for too long. Mike

@Kristine: I have grown 'Rouletti' for many years and it is not unusual for a specimen of it to remain under 10" tall. Sometimes, under ideal conditions and with the best of care it can sometimes reach a foot or so, but rarely. Mind you, there are several roses in commerce and in collections that appear to be closely related, but distinct in some ways. It is entirely likely that numerous plants exist, having been grown from seed over the decades and presumed by most growers to be the "original" clone. We will never unravel that mystery! http://paulbardenroses.com/minis/rouletii.html Alternatively, your plant may be Moore's 'Pink Joy', dating to 1953. That rose bears a striking resemblance to 'Rouletti' and could easily be mistaken for it. I'm glad you like 'Unconditional Love' :-) It is one of the best miniatures I bred. Thank you.
