The Fickleness of Fragrance

I wish I had a better nose for roses. Having read that rose fragrance can vary person to person I always buy fragrant roses hoping that they will really wow me, and I'm usually disappointed. Of this year's purchases Sheila's Perfume has a very faint fragrance to me, and with Julia's Child I can barely smell the 'licorice' and when I do I don't really like it. Fragrant Cloud was the exception that did have a powerful and pleasing scent, unfortunately it didn't like my garden and had to move to my mom's.

The best smelling rose I've ever had the pleasure to scent was a lavender HT, I don't know the name. It was wonderful, potent, and a bit citrus-y. But lavender is my least favorite color of rose, I like yellows and at least for me they have the least pleasing fragrances.

And so I plant yellow roses and mix sweet peas, honeysuckle, and gardenias into the garden for their frangrance - which for some reason I have no problems smelling at all.
