I got my first sprouts!!!!!!

I sowed Virgina Stock January the 4th!! This is my lasagna pan inside the comforter bag!! I checked today and looky here you guys!! I got my first winter sown sprouts!! I am so excited!!

First Sprout on Winter-sown Tomatoes

I have sevearl jugs of late sowed tomato seeds, honest those are the ones still waiting for. It is like they needed more time in chilling. All the ones I planted 2/15 thur3/28 did great but any after that still waiting on. Transplanting the 2/15 on ones this week. I have found the earlier ones do better for me in my zone 6, but have to watch for late frosts. Some of the hard to get seeds still waiting for the sprouts, but transplanted two flats out of two containers sowed on 2/15 this week. Oh and the kitty litter jug gets a wow from me. I dumped a package of brandy wine pink tomato seeds in it and they took off. ML

Houston we have lift off! All my milk jugs have sprouted that were planted in Feb and March except the chives, thought they were up but a no go it seems. Last two night been dragging those seedlings in, that is 5 milk crates filled full with tomato sprouts. They will go back out tommorow am after 10 am. they are getting tall but need the frist true leaves, going in side is not helping them stay short. At this stage of the game dont want to loose them. Need to make up markers and start planting out this week. My trial ones. Will do one set of each every two weeks till what ever happens. ML

Hooray for you and your sprouts !! This is my first season to WS, too. I'm not Canadian, but my climate is more in line with yours than the lower 48. In March I would read the USA WS forum and everyone was getting sprouts everywhere. I started feeling like I was doing something wrong. After all, according to USDA I'm in zone 6b. It doesn't sound right to me but I think I'll start experimenting with plants hardy in 6b and see what happens. I don't have any sprouts yet. We just started getting above freezing temps a few days ago. So I'm thinking another week of rising temps should show some results. The snow finally melted enough for me to get into my greenhouse, I may try starting some seeds in there, too. I am SO ready for spring! It was great to just sit in the GH and look at all the things I wintered over. They did pretty good. May your Winter Sown seeds sprout abundantly :-) pam- your northern neighbor

Oh, one of the great things about WS is seeing the TEENSIEST of sprouts that you could never see way down on the ground. How cute are they?! Congratulations!

When I found them I was like what, no way, it was one of those take 2 moments. I ran and had to go grab my camera!! Then when I realized it was an annual, I was really like uh uh I got to be wrong on that one.

Girlgroupgirl, you are to correct, I would of never noticed this if it were out in one of my flower beds!! Though I do have to say it did get me looking at one of my flower beds and I already have tulips coming up!! Also I was driving out in the country earlier today and I could of sworn I saw a forsynthia bush already budding!! Though it might of been a cedar or evergreen that had to much acid, luckily I wasn't driving cause I sure cocked my head to look at it!! LOL

Spring is near!!! Whoooo hooooo!!!
