I got teary eyed reading your post. My prayers go out to you and your hubs. Please let us know how he (and you) are doing. I'm still a WS noobie of sorts though I had a very good year last year. My morning glories did not sprout ( I WSed early. I'm sowing those late this year but maybe someone else with more experience can join in.

Oh, I'm sorry, Carol. I work in the OR of a Hand Surgery Center. You really wouldn't believe how many ways we humans find to mangle our hands. I'm sure it looks awful to you and your husband, but be grateful that it's not worse. Really. Don't mean to sound unsympathetic but it really could have been a whole lot worse when using a table saw. It sound as if, after initial pain and inconvenience, he'll be fine with little to no loss of function of his fingers and hands. He might need a surgical repair but should then be fine. I wish him the best. Take a breath. Go give him a pain pill, then both of you could take a nap. Call out for pizza for dinner. Relax, get ready for doctor appointment tomorrow.

I'd forget about seeds for today. Go comfort your husband, men are tough when it's "the other guy" but ... not necessarily when it applies to themselves. You'll both feel better.

Wow! What a day you both have had! I hope his thumb heals up nicely and quickly.

1: If the aster is perennial, sow anytime. I'd do MGs a few weeks before last frost date.

2: I've been making soap for years. I do cold-process and hot process, never done melt and pour. But if you are doing that, and have questions about additives or molds, I may be able to help with that too.

3: I'm sure your hubby knows this, and knew it before the accident, but if you're that close to the blade, you're too close. That's what "push sticks" are for. For everyone else: are you in a hurry? Well, a trip to the hospital takes up a lot of time. I had a coworker tell me it was faster to do a job on the table saw without a push stick. He went to the hospital that day carrying his thumb tip. So, I just remember him when I feel rushed and tempted to ignore safety!

Yep, he knows that,plain stupidty he said,he can't believe he was that stupid, he only had 5 push sticks sitting there,a small price to pay,like Karen said,it could have been so much worse.Life lesson eh.

I don't know if the asters are annual or perenial,they were a gift and not marked as such.

Whoops, I already WSed some MG's. I'll save the rest for later.I figured if they reseed in the garden themselves, the seeds are out there all winter, laying in the soil.I didn't consider the containers make the environment for the seeds,warmer & protected,allowing them to sprout sooner.????

So sorry for you and your husband. I think I felt similarly the second time my husband drilled his finger with a screw tip. Let us know how he heals up. I'm really glad there wasn't bone damage. Is your daughter ok?

Oh,Thank you so much for all your kind well wishes,you are all so very thoughtful, i have even received some privet e mails from some of you,what a wonderful group you are.I am speachless,really.
We went to the doctor today,he is going to heal fine,the doctor removed some skin,(ugh),and wants to see him,every other day for two weeks,to change the dressing and check for infection,i am happy about that.
I can do it,but the doctor wants to check it.He thinks it looks fine,ewwwwwwwwwww,i disagree,ha ha

floodthelast,my daughter lives up north,hubby was making us a soap mold,so,yes,she is fine,thank you for asking,i was a wreak though,funny,i did real well through the whole thing,even changing the dressing,but today, i sort of fell apart,crazy,i know.

I need more soil,and containers,and seeds.can't wait for the package to come from Patty at the end of the month, :0)

Carol, I'm so sorry about your dh and hope he heals really quickly. I've made soap before also, but it's been awhile. I just remember it wasn't hard at all. I collected various animals fats, melted them, used two thermometers and a can of drano... In a couple of weeks it was beautiful soap.

There are prob. a lot of other ways to do it too, just like ws'ing.

So glad though your dh is going to be fine. :)

Thanks Duchess,we are still researching the soap,we want to tyr using olive oil,in place of animal fat.

Up date on hubby:

OK, now listen to this,when leaving the emegancy room, they said to put an antibotic cream on the wound,so i did,.
The next day, the doctor saud NO,do not use that,i felt really bad, like i did something bad for my husband,i told the doctor they said to use it,but he still said no.
Now, this morning when we go in for his check up, they soak it in a salien solution,mixed with peroxide,said to do this and buy this,so i did.
The drugest said to never use peroxide,because it kills tissue,he says,did the doctor tell you to use this, i said yes,he said,well, i guess if sai so, but i would never reccomend useing it.
No wonder they are so many that end up with an infection,every one we talked to had something different to sayon how to treat this wound,i just feel like screaming!
Sorry, i just had to vent,so now i don't know if i should use the peroxide or not.Doctores do not know every thing,this i have found out over years.

I will be doing more WSing later today,seedmama is going to do a container count for us,thank you seedmama

I, also, am sorry to hear about your spouse. And conflicting advice can be maddening. It's the caring so much that creates so much worry! You want the best possible treatment for those you love and sometimes it feels impossible to figure out what the best care is. I wish you the best of luck.

I was reminded of my father when I read your initial post. His right(?) index finger was shorter than the rest. He'd cut the end off before I was born. To me, that funny-looking finger was just my dad. It makes me smile to remember it. So as long as that thumb doesn't affect his general health, it's all okay. Maybe some child will grow up and smile when they remember his funny-looking thumb.

That is so sweet,about your dad.
Hubbys thumb will heal very well,no nerve or mussle damage.
Like your dad, it will just look funny,maybe he can make up a really exciting story to go with it,ha ha.

I still do not kow what to do about the H.Peroxide though.
