dilemma due to late planting out date

Hi all,

I tend to lurk here and appreciate reading all the helpful advice. I was so pleased last year with my first WSing results. Am now in winter obsessed mode and can't stop thinking about my garden. Anyway, I live at a boarding school so can't get to my summer house until end of May to plant out. mainly thinking about my annuals, if I sow fewer seeds/container will they grow largerprior to planting out? or try individual seeds in cups? last year I only put 5 petunias seeds/milk jug and they didn't really grow until I got them in the ground. My other option would be to go up early and plant out, but then they would be on their own in terms of getting water for a few weeks. I know in the end they will catch up b/c they sure did last summer, but I am impatient!

thanks for any advice.
