was a little sad to sow my last packets from Value Seeds today, have a order from swallow tail coming . Man am I going to have alot of containrs to sow in April. Two boxes of annuals , alot of hha's.

Tall Bellflower, in a new milk jug! I've never been so excited to finish a jug of milk...

I keep staring at my packages of annuals with much anticipation of spring and sowing these in jugs or some other container for the first time (I'm a newbie winter sower). I just got a few packages of marigold seeds, zinnia seeds (really excited about 'Green Envy') at our local nursery and supermarket, plus some different kinds of Cosmos.

I'm so psyched about WS!!!

Dature Le Fleur....I'm gonna have to try that one of these days!! So far I only got 1 Geranium 'Biskovo' seedling...has been at least a month and don't look like I'll get anymore :( Got my first sprout of Asarina scandens today...I'm just tickled! I hope more will follow. Will you let yours climb or trail from a basket? I rolled a huge flat topped stump over to one of my beds and placed it there and was comtemplating letting this one trail from a container. If I get enough seedlings to sprout I was also thinking about making some type of support using some bailing wire...it's very easy to bend and twist into shape and I got a whole roll of it! Vera

Lol Karen, I did the same thing. On 6/23 I did Knautia Macedonica "Melton Pastels", Digitalis Parviflora "Chocolate Foxglove" (that freebie from T&M), Salvia Lyrata "Purple Volcano" and Echinops "Platinum Blue" which germinated on the 25th unlike the packet which said in 1-2 months. I also did some Lavender Vera a few weeks ago and have sprouts already. :) -Lysie

I have sprouts of the "Antwerp" Hollyhocks! I certainly didn't expect them THAT quick! I think I'll be putting out the "Scarlet OHara" now too. (Can you tell I'm making up for a 'red-deficit' in my yard this year?) Northerner...oh crap. Not another floppy plant. I still haven't staked my Maximillian Sunflowers right. I try to get my husband to help me (being the excellent conceptual, mechanical person that he is, truly), but getting him in the garden to do more than mow the lawn is difficult. Maybe if I have daisies planted between Hollyhocks, and back of the border with the house behind it, they'll stay upright?? I'll keep you posted on that (or you'll hear my laments in the coming years) Bakemom, I'm thinking of doing some red Maltese Cross too. Yesterday, I Summer Sowed more: Consolida ambigua (it hasn't winter sowed for me for two years, so I'll try summer sowing it and see what happens) Cerinthe Perennial Scabiosa, yellow Cosmos sulphureus "Bright Lights" Burgundy Gaillardia Aster "Crego" Some I want to do this weekend: Larkspur (Delphinium ajacus) Chrysanthemum "Coconut Ice" --and I just remembered I still have those Polyanthus and Primula seeds in the freezer. Oops. Better take those out and do those today. --this is the most I've ever summer sowed. usually I save this time of year to sow really special tropical things. Linda

If silver dollar seeds are the same as Honesty or Money Plant, I did two of those and one lg Blue Bachelor's Button.

Good job! There are a few on your list I'd like to try another year. Lost my Joe Pye Weed seeds and some others, maybe they will yet turn up.

Let us know how they do, especially the Hosta and Delphs.

Ive done Delphs 2-3 times, and they always germinate for me very well, I always figure you cant have enough of them =).

Ive done Joe Pye weed in my last house as well, though it never bloomed before I moved, it seems to take 3 years here to do that.

Ive tried hostas 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years and have had no germination, is it becuase of the poeple who gave them to me? The method? It seems other wintersowers have had a great deal of success doing them, not me, not yet. Ive tried them early and Ive tried them later. Im going back to early and seeing what happens. Silver Dollar is the same as money plant, a very eary biennal, I have sowed them before, but gave them to my Mother, becuase she loves the early spring fragrance. She gave me some seeds back to do them here. Shes very skeptical on wintersowing still! Lol, yet every year I give her more and more to plant from it. She has Dianthus, silver dollar, rudbeckia, russian sage, mondara all from wintersowing.
