I try to give a short list of fragrant roses that are not monsters, so would be more suitable for pot culture (For example, I leave out my favorite, Papa Meilland that is 5'+ tall and I don't recommend Frederic Mistral that is both tall and wide). Clotilde Soupert SDLM - by all means Bolero - perfect rounded shrub (floribunda) with wonderfully fragrant blooms and nice foliage Deep Secret (mine is not very productive, so ask around) Yves Piaget - huge peony-like fragrant deep pink flowers Jardins de Bagatelle -my 2 plants stays 4' so that is still OK for pot Parole huge, I mean HUGE fragrant dark pink blooms with purplish tones Rouge Royale but in this case I suggest to get an own root plant (mine came from Northland Rosarium) Also, some of the smaller Austins; I would avoid Tamora because of its serious blackspot issues but Prospero, The Squire, Jubilee Celebration all look suitable for pot culture.

Camelot is an old grandiflora/hybrid tea that is very tough here in Socal. Very resistant to powdery mildew. Blooms a salmony pink, holds forever in a vase and is very fragrant. Condesa de Sastago is another old hybrid tea that has a warm multicolored flower and a strong scent. Folklore gets tall has lovely multicolored blooms and is very thorny with a strong fragrance. Kordes Söhne and nine cultivars of the Romantica series from Meilland Star were planted in adjacent field beds. The number of stems produced per plant and stem length were measured to assess the field production potential of cut flower stems in Mississippi. Based on 2 years of assessment, the best performing W. Kordes Söhne roses were ‘Fantasia Mondiale’, ‘Masquerade’, and ‘Pinguin’, averaging three to 12 stems/plant per month that were at least 30 cm long, and the best Meilland Star cultivars for outdoor cut flower production were ‘Frederic Mistral’, ‘Michelangelo’, ‘The McCartney Rose’, and ‘Traviata’, averaging three to 20 stems/plant per month that were at least 30 cm long. These cultivars performed well during the heat of the Mississippi summer.

Kristine - that sounds divine!!! Pictures when you have them!! Needmoremulch - wow - rose damask fragrance? Looks like a keeper. mmmmm :) Totoro - in my old house, I planted DD, and I could smell it from 8 feet away....and I hated, hated the smell. I had to get rid of it. I like the smell of myrrh...but that one was disgusting. I bet if I grew it in a pot (it was in the ground), the fragrance would be more manageable. Carol
