blade won't engage

I have an AYP garden tractor and the blade handle will not let me push it up to turn on the blades. The tactor has been sitting for 2 weeks due to very dry weather. The blades will turn by hand but I am afraid of breaking something inside if I force the handle. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Some Model, Type, Serial numbers would be helpful!
Is this handle the one that rides up in a slot and moves to the right into a hook-shaped slot? Some times they get rusty, and take a determined pull to get it to move.
does your machine set out in the rain and etc.? Do you mow in dusty conditions? Have you run over any sticks, etc. lately. Have you cleaned out the clippings on top of the mowing deck. there might be a stick stuck under there, which is keeping the mechanism from doing what it has to do when you try to move the handle! All it takes is to get a stick stuck between the belt and a pulley, or in the works somewhere.
Lay down on a dry piece of cardboard, and using a bright flash-light, peer under the tractor and above the deck, for anything untoward! HTH: Rusty Jones

Best to pull the deck, make sure the cable is working free (if a cable model). The usual on these are the arm that the cable or link pulls back to engage the deck either gets bound up by debris or is binding due to corrosion. It is a pretty straightforward repair once you have the deck off.

Stupid question on my part, but does this Honda have BBC or is it zone start? Honda puts BBC on commercial and higher end mowers, and zone start on the cheaper ones (sold thru mass retailers). Try posting the full Honda model number.

You will need to check for 12V and ground at the harness for starters. AN increased gap will not always let a clutch engage, but would it pop the fuse getting hot enough? Never say never. Is it possible a wire backed up in the connector behind the pto switch?

Usually, this might be caused by a problem in the seat switch circuitry, and your scenario sounds consistent with that. Check that the wires have not come unplugged from the seat switch, or that the seat switch itself has not become detached or loose in its mount. It is possible that the PTO switch (blades engage switch) has failed. It is also possible that the PTO clutch (on end of engine crankshaft undet the tractor) is in need of adjustment. Start with the seat switch considerations first, they are the simplest to do. Report back what you find and we'll continue on, or stop and applaud, whichever is appropriate (we eventually get to the applause, we hope :^)

I also have a 2005 Husqvarna LGT2654 riding mower that the blades wont engage :( I did as tractortrader said and got on the mower, turned the key (engine still off though) and tried to engage the blade and I didn't hear anything. The electric clutch spring looks fine. I'm thinking, since I don't hear anything when trying to engage the blade I am going to have to replace the PTO clutch. We have also replaced the drive belt recently, and the transmission because the reverse was not working so well. Since we replaced the transmission the reverse works a little better but not much. Any suggestions on that? Or is it just time to get a new mower!? lol
