Compost pH (finished)

arjo_reich
16 years ago

My first pile of compost just finished and I have to say that I was kind of surprised to find out that the pH of it came out to be dead on 7.0. The primary ingredients of the pile were oak leaves and coffee grounds and while I know the coffee grounds are a mild buffer... I expected the pH to be a little lower.

THIS IS GREAT!!!

My soil's pH is naturally around 4.5-5.0 with every measurement I've taken so far and I'm really happy I have a very natural amendment _that i made_ to add to it and try to level it out to a more reasonable 5.5-6.0 range.

<dances>

I formally apologize for my doubts about composting oak leaves and their acidity...
