I don't think you need a heat pack, just lots of insulation. I've had boxes with heat packs where the plants have gotten too hot and a few were mush when I got them. So if you do decide to use heat packs make sure that the plants aren't in direct contact with the heat.

What is the source of the recipe? It is the Ball Complete Book recipe basically but has been altered too. The original instructions say to pack the tomatoes leaving a "generous" 1/2 inch headspace (a loose pack). Then after adding brine you remove all the air from the jars and that will increase the headspace as you stir the contents (unless you have over-packed the jars) and then you add more brine. Since you didn't use the plum tomatoes you will have left over liquid no matter how long you let them drain - that is just their nature - so you can expand the recipe into an extra jar. As to the recipe itself, previous discussions here about it were mainly negative as to flavor and texture. Dave

Barbra, I don't know where you can them, but put in a Google search and several sites come up including this one heat packs. And another one heat pack. You might want to call one of your local nurseries to get more information or a tropical fish store that ships live fish around. Good luck! Boy it is getting cold down here this morning. Your old system was a 3 ton? If you don't know, you better check and confirm. If it was a 3 ton, any.comfort issues cooling and heating? I personally think a 3 ton would be borderline. Again what size is system you are replacing?
