TAPS.... for hostas gone but not forgotten
Comments (13)Let's see how many of the circumstances I can recall.. I think that with pretty well all of the hostas I've lost, it happened in their first season. Blue Dimples was on the South and East side of one of my earliest hosta beds that is around a couple of large evergreen trees. It was on outside edge of the bed, along with about 35-30 other hostas that are on the edge of that same bed. Montana was north of my garden shed and south of an evergreen tree. It was in the same general area as several other hostas that are doing just fine in the same growing conditions. Emerald Ruff Cut was on the north edge of an evergreen tree. I have 3 Lakeside hostas in that same area and they are all looking great. Spilt Milk was near a maple tree, so it could have been roots, although nothing else in the area has died on me. Frances Williams was on the edge of my patio, between a couple of lilacs, and a replacement Frances Williams has been happily living there for the three years since. Several others were in pots of various kinds. Grey Cole, Great Expectations, Knock Out, Pizzazz, Taffeta, Crinkle Cup, Dream Weaver, Winfield Blue, Wolverine... all were in pots. It's true that they didn't have any special winter protection, but then neither did others in pots that are doing fine. Lakeside Lollipop, I flat out murdered. I feel bad about that one, but I've confessed and I can't do any more to make up for it. Her replacement is here, and will receive much better care. And the streaky Breeder's Choice was surrounded by too much other plant life and succumbed to something similar to 'damping off', I think. A couple of others were in a raised temp bed. I've got something like 20 others in that same bed and they are fine. Probably more detail then anyone really wanted to read through, and there are some commonalities between some of the losses.... hostas in pots being the biggest one. Maybe more winter protection, or getting them moved out of the pots and into the ground might have saved some of those....See MoreForgotten Dreams bush
Comments (10)Thank you ladies. Seil, Edmunds used to carry this rose, had it for several years, I ordered it from them. Heirloom Roses is the only place I've seen it listed in recent years....See MoreA few more blooms
Comments (9)Thanks so much! Judy, it's in its fifth season. Mine didn't do much the first year I had it, the second year it bloomed quite a bit more, and by the third season it was doing great. Mine had gotten pretty big so I had my grandson prune it for me. Mine blooms good in the spring, then I have scattered blooms. I think yours will do great once it gets established....See MoreBefore the storm!
Comments (9)Good luck. All of your roses are so beautiful. I'm glad I didn't shovel prune my Easy Does It. I have 3 and they were blackespotted snd pitiful. Then, miraculously they made a glorious turn around. No ruffles yet but hopefully soon....See Morebethnorcal9
