husqvarna yth2042 vs jd x300 ????????

Greetings

I'm trying to decide which is the better machine here for my property. I have about an acre of normal grass that 'any ol' mower could mow' and then about another acre of stuff that gets wild and wooly. (grows like crazy in the rainy season and stays to wet to mow for a few weeks at a time)

As such I require a better than basic machine.

Stats:-

Husqvarna has 20Hp V-Twin Kohler engine, 42' cut.

John Deere has 17Hp V-Twin Kwaka engine, 38' cut.

JD is only 10% dearer than the Husky (RRP)

Both machines are the bottom level of the commercial grade machine (so the respective dealers tell me)

Both machines have the same "creature comforts" i.e cruise control (is that ever used?) stubbie holders, extra comfortable seats.

JD has a 3mm deck (Do not know what that is in gauge)

Husky has..... a deck.....of some description... ???

Any thoughts on comparing these machines

A quality machine that is going to last me many years and be able to handle a few bumps and bruises is what i'm after.

Right now i'm leaning towards the JD - it appears to be a tougher machine.

Technical question = is 20hp the same across the board for different brands, or do some brands need to over-compensate with a bigger engine simple because of poor pulley and deck design (loose too much power between the engine and the mower blades)

Please help! Cheers in Advance.
