How to keep cats out
Comments (15)Hot pepper spray would be harmful. They get it on their paws and when they groom themselves it can get in their eyes. If you've ever gotten pepper juice in your eyes when cooking, you know it's painful. It's known that cats don't like the smell of citrus which is why Corrine1 had success with orange peels. Perhaps you could find a cat deterrent spray at a pet supply store that's used to keep them off furniture. I have cats and I've noticed they won't use an area that I've mulched with shredded cypress(commonly sold around here). I'm thinking it's more the texture than the smell. Maybe try lava rock mulch since the shredded bark can affect the nitrogen content of the soil. They prefer sand and soft garden soil. It sounds like the cat sprayed your cukes rather than peed 'on' them. Mostly un-neutered cats will do territorial spraying, but neutered/spayed cat will occasionally spray also. There may be more than one neighbor's cat out there. We have a sand-based play are here on the grounds and a lot of neighborhood cats use it(including our own)on their way to the vacant lot next door where they all like to hunt. The tenents here would like to have another medium under the 'jungle jim' but HUD safety regulations will only allow a soft medium like sand or ground rubber(and the housing authority would never pay for ground rubber). On the up side, we don't have a rodent problem here. Sorry to go on so long. I like cats and my garden and try to find ways to have both. Hope you can find something that works for you and report back to us....See MoreHow to keep cats out of my garden
Comments (6)Those noise repellers do work, my friend got one for his garden because he used to get unwelcome cats and foxes in his garden. They stopped coming in pretty quickly when he put the repeller up! So I think they are probably fine. I personally got some fence spikes that you pop along the top of your fence and find them to be very effective at stopping unwanted visitors getting into your garden! I get mine from this site, but I think you can also get the noise ultrasonic repellers here too if you prefer that. My order was delivered very quickly and wasn't too expensive either, so I think they're a good company. Comments (15)Once the cats come into your garage call animal control and have them picked up and hauled off to the unwanted, unloved cat station where they will be fed, given health care and adopted out if possible. If these are clearly people's pets and you are a super nice person you could post notices warning people their outdoor cats are in violation of your local animal laws (if they are) by being loose and if it continues then they will be picked up and will have to pay a fine to reclaim them. (which is usually the case). I'm of the belief that pets are at risk in the wild urban environment and there is nothing to be ashamed of by calling and having them picked up if they are loose. Also they keep reproducing and becoming pests so it's really not a terrible thing....See Moreany tips for keeping cats out of blinds?
Comments (9)It sounds like they just want to get up on the windowsill so they can look outside. Cats won't usually jump onto a surface unless they have space to land, so fill the windowsill area with something (cardboard boxes, bags of sugar, books, whatever). Or put something over the window so they can't see out, like that "stained glass" or frosted adhesive-backed plastic. Then they'll have no reason to jump up there. You could also try taping sheets of flimsy cardboard to the windowsills, so that several inches of cardboard hangs over into the room. They will jump onto the cardboard, it will bend, and they will fall to the floor (unharmed). After a few tries they'll give up....See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
