Oh, well, i don't have other trees in my yard so invasive species aren't a problem for me. I'm taking that it still won't work, am i right?

Invasive species are not only a problem for you, they are a problem for everyone else and whatever dwindling habitat remains in florida.
An invasive species is one that spreads to natural areas and continues to spread on it's own displacing native vegetation and wildlife. Some examples of problem plants you may recognize are Malaleuca which was originally planted to dry up the everglades! and Australian pine and brazilian pepper.

I am not talking about volunteering in your own yard.

Please visit www.fleppc.org and get a better udnerstanding of the reasons not to plant invasives, especially catagory 1's and why you should remove the one you've already got.

Also you may not realize that it is against the law there to propagate some invasives. I don't know if this is one of them.

Well, i did some research, and found out that this plant does not generate new roots from a branch (like a Ficus bush can) so i can't do it anyway/ Thanks for the info though.

Although i really don't see why it is an invasive plant. It does have massive and long roots, but it doesn't seem to kill anything near it, or spread new plants around it. There must be other reasons...

It may not spread plants in your yard but it could be spreding plants miles and miles away.
Plants like this produce numerous seeds. The seeds then are eaten by birds. When the birds poop out the seeds, often in the trees in natural areas the seed comes out and can germinate.
Another way they spread is by wind. Small seeds can blow a considerable distance in the wind and make their way to a surface water feature.

And that brings me to water. Seeds can travel down your extensive canal networks, rivers or other waterways and wash up on shore literally miles away from where its journey began.

It's the 3 W's.
Wind, Water and Wildlife.

So then class, with every invasive species that is planted, Queen Palm for example (which is a popular tree and a catagory II) there is the potential for any of these 3 W's to take place... berries to be produced, then fall to the ground, get eaten by wildlife or blow in the wind or water then take over a natural area and choke out what was supposed to be there to begin with.

And it's a shame because Florida has such a wide assortment of unique habitats and it's being thrown away because of misbehaving exotics and a greedy nursery trade.

And since you mentioned ficus, you were probably talking about Ficus benjamina which is commonly used as a hedge plant there but there is Ficus microcarpa, a popular indoor houseplant for the rest of the country yet it is a major pest down there.

I urge you to please carefully research plants that you want to grow in your garden before doing so. It is part of being a responsible gardener and good steward of the land. Florida has many wonderful native plants too that offer a lot in terms of fast growth, low maintenance, ornamental appeal, wind resistance and drought tolerance. There are so many better alternatives than this plant, I assure you.

Oh wow... i never knew there was so much bad things about invasive plants. I will not get more of those (although i do have plenty of queen palms in my yard)

The only ficus i ever see around here is the benjamina one, which has the pointy and wavy leaves. The microcarpa one is not very common...

LOL,I have one of these as a house plant and just repotted it, what roots it had! It refuses to branch tho!

I'm not surprised. Queen palms are very inexpensive to mass produce and very profitable for the retail nurseries in Florida. Rather than sell more desirable palms at a higher price, they have McFlora and everybody buys it.
