Echinacea, Shastas, Yarrow --- A Victim of their own Success!

However bad the weather's been for some places, apparently it's been ideal for my garden. Too ideal? The perennials have grown about twice as tall as I'd expected with the Yarrow at about 5 feet tall, if they'd remain upright. Luckily I cut back the Autumn Glow sedums to 1/2 height earlier or they'd be about 36-42 inches by now rather than the 24" I expected. I had to cut the yarrow back to about 12" just so its neighbors would survive. The echinacea's in a good spot where its height seems OK, but the shastas look completely out of place at about 4' tall. Can I cut these down to half-height and expect any further flowering or growth this season. It's a tough choice when you've carefully planned a garden considering the heights of the plants, and now face the prospect of digging things out.
