A CC882 is a CC782 with a diesel engine. A good one is somewhat of a collectors item. However, one with a diesel engine that has not run for several years would likely be a problem, since it is water cooled and who knows if it has frozen, etc. The injector pump and injectors would likely require rebuilding and be very expensive. Possibly only good for parts.

I have forgotten who made the engine. The pump and injectors are likely gummed up, but not necessarily so. There are many CC discussion groups for these red tractors. They were only made in late 79 and early 80. They were styled like the big red farm tractors of that era and were expensive, $3,000 to $5,000 new. Some were assembled by MTD, using IH parts, shortly after IH sold the line to MTD. The red LTs and GTs are discussed extensively in "Farmall Cub & Cub Cadet" by Kenneth Updike, a very interesting book. This line is arguably the best CC made in that era.

Because diesel fuel is "a light oil", the injectors and injection pump have probably suffered no ill effects from long term storage (unless a portion of this time was outdoors) so long as the pump was not drained or emptied prior to onset of storage. Your main concern in regard to the fuel system is deterioration of rubber seals and o-rings. When that diesel engine was built, diesel fuel had a high sulphur content. When the EPA mandated "Low Sulphur diesel fuel", owners/users of some older engines began to experience fuel leaks due to incompatibility of some rubber components with the new fuel formulae. For the short term, I think you can still purchase fuel additives that replace the sulphur for use in older engines. But as older injection systems get rebuilt using components that are compatible with "Low", and now, "Ultra Low Sulphur" fuels, this additive will either be scarce (not enough sales) or will be outlawed by EPA. (I wonder how far EPA will go with this? Maybe someday it will be " Very Super-Dooper Extremely Ultra Low Sulphur fuel!) A concern for the long term is whether you can find a diesel injection specialty rebuilder that can provide seals and o-rings for the pump and injectors that are compatibile with today's "Ultra Low Sulphur diesel fuel". As to the "A Kissing" question, that depends on how badly you want this project in your shed. You can buy a gallon of antiseptic mouthwash and "kiss away" if you just gotta have this. Alternatively you might try to "Psyche" your cousin into thinking this machine is nothing but a liability for him that he will eventually be forced to pay someone to haul off to the recycler. "Strategery" is necessary sometimes.

That doesn't work with him, it seems. He had a diesel Ford pickup, which he wouldn't sell, when he had a decent offer. Now it's almost a heap of rust and he's hoping to get $50 out of it.

Yes, they are very much worth the trouble...especially the 882 !! Those that think the old Cubs aren't worth anything don't know much about them. Try asking that question on a dedicated Cub Cadet sight and see what the insiders tell you about it.

I mentioned the tractors to him once, and his reaction was, "the 72 was good, as the engines are becoming scarce". No comment on the 882.

I'm picturing in my mind, the 882 with a blower! ... Dual rears, after seeing "mith"s pictures of his Horse. And, I guess it should have a ROPS. LOL
