If you are looking for a bush she is not your girl. It is a beautiful long blooming geranium that is wide and moves around. Mine is blooming now and will bloom until the first frost. She is my favorite.

Your established "Rozanne" is blooming now (zone 5)?? I wont see flowers for probably 3 weeks.

I have a number of green painted wire rings, each with 3 wire legs, and I put one around my huge blue sort while it is just coming from the ground. Otherwise the plant would flop over, either in drought, or with the weight of rain or garden watering on it.
The other two were purposefully chosen as low growing plants. Ingerwersen's Variety, and G. sanguineum 'alba;.

rouge2, I noticed Rozanne flowering today. We have been in the 90s this has been a hot Spring. All of my Geraniums are blooming and one is finished.

This has to be the most over-rated plant in the world. It's a floppy mess.

If you want a geranium that stays in a neat mound, then Rozanne isn't a good choice for that. It's more of a sprawler. I have it sprawling through daylilies and some other plants, and it's very pretty, but not neat and tidy at all. I know there are some nice ones that mound without having to cut them back all the time. Can't think of any names right now.

Rozeanne is a magnificent twiner with long stems that want to crawl into neighbors. Think of her that way--not a flopper. She looks gorgeous twined into any number of plants--Malva alcea fastigiata, Caryopteris 'Snow Fairy', etc. Make use of her unique characteristics, but don't try to make her something she's not.

marquest, the only geranium that is currently flowering for me is "Max Frei" and some Geranium macrorrhizum.

I have several to look forward to:

- "Rozanne"
- "Havana Blues"
- "Lakwijk Star"

Mine is also starting to bloom now. I love it. It blooms for a long time, very nice color, and yes, it twines into surrounding plants and does sprawl. But if you plant it with that expectation and aren't a super-neat gardener, it's grand.

Exactly Jay. I do not understand why this is so hard to understand if you want a sun plant you do not plant a shade plant. If you want a bush you do not buy a ground cover.

The value of any plant is that we purchase and plant the type of plant we need for our personal garden style or need.

It suits my style because I do not like the manicured ball plant here and there with a foot of mulch between every plant. So a twinning between the plants and reliable blooms every year without having to buy annuals every year. To have blooms all summer until winter is a benefit for my garden style. There are so few plants that bloom this long that is not a annual.

If you want a bush buy a bush. Example.... A good small bush is Weigela. It blooms and you can have a short blooming bush. They have great color leaves but it does not bloom all summer into winter. Rozanne does bloom all summer but it is not a bush.

'Rozanne' is amazingly beautiful when used as a scrambling/twining weaver among perennial beds. A tidy specimen plant she is not. She gets large but her long stems are never heavy enough to overwhelm most companions. And she responds to both hard and selective pruning like a trooper.

I am fairly new to hardy geraniums but up to this point I have never seen one look truly happy, healthy or vigorous when grown in nursery pots for sale. Most of the geraniums I planted early last spring were tiny, sad things that mainly sulked during the summer. I had fairly low expectations based on their underwhelming performance last year, but now they have grown into lush, charming plants. I suspect many of these plants fit into the 1st year-sleep, 2nd year creep, 3rd year-leap rule.

It has been a very cool but stable spring in my area. 3 clumps of 'Rozanne' have been blooming sparsely for the past week, while the rest are forming buds. Also blooming now are 'Tiny Monster' (also started last week), magnificum 'Rosemoor' (ditto), 'Elizabeth Ann' (started three weeks ago and still going strong) and pyrenaicum 'Bill Wallis' (started over a month ago and blooms have been becoming both larger and more numerous now). 'Bevan's Variety' and 'Biokovo' have been blooming for past two weeks. 'Blue Sunrise', Geranium wlassovianum and G. himalayense 'Derrick Cook' are still busy forming buds.

I think the poster is talking about what I am seeing. I don't know the names of my geraniums but they look horrible. Floppy is not twining! Floopy is when the stems all droop toward the outside with nothing happening in the middle. Even the wild ones in our woods don't do that. I have one that 'twines' and also a short one that mounds. I love those. These, however - I have no use for!

I would say that whatever the plant, it's going to look better and be more vigorous in the ground over being trapped in a pot. The nursery trade can work wonders making plants for sale look good, but putting a plant in a pot is a definite constraint. If you think you would like Rozanne, taking into consideration all of the comments here from various growers, then don't be afraid to make a purchase. Disease and bugs are more the things I avoid in potted plants for sale. I bought some hail damaged hostas for fifty cents once that were just gorgeous the next year. That's one of the beauties of perennials.

RyseRyse, sounds like a few things. It could be the soil, light, age of the plant. All geranium do not demand the same conditions. I have some that like full sun, some that perform and grow perfect in the shade in horrible soil. One dose not like good soil.

If you find a plant that does not react the way your want it for the position in your garden and you do not have alternate space to plant it to make it happy then the only thing you can do is dig it out and get a plant that makes you happy.

Gardening is a challenge. I had a normal Suburban yard so I know how hard it is to have limited space. I am not in that position now. I move plants around until I find its happy place. I do not blame the plant.
