Kohler 25hp Head Gasket Replacement

Hello all, I have the Kohler CV25S Command with a leaking right hand side head gasket. The engine specs are as follows:

SKH 725U1G2RB

Model CV25S

Spec 69525

Disp 725

Serial 2904320901

Total hours are 97. I know, bummer!

The Head gasket stud kit is no longer available, but I have purchased the Kohler kit # 24-757-31 with the new bolts, with reduced shanks. This is suppose to be the new fix for the leaking head gasket problem.

Compression tests.

Left 185psi

Right 165psi

slight leaking can be heard from right at shut down.

I have a shop manual for the John Deere Saber 2554.

Tractor is a John Deere built Scotts 1999? 2554.

Questions:

1. Can I do this repair with the engine still on the tractor?

2. Do I have to pull the carb off first, or can I remove the carb and intake as an assembly?

3. Will the Kohler "improved bolt" kit I bought work fine?

4. Should I do both heads, even though the left one is not leaking?

5. Do I have to remove the lifters, or can they stay in their bores, and just remove the pushrods, and label them, intake, exhaust, top and bottom. ?

Looks to be a straight foreward job, and the engine can stay in the tractor frame.

Any additional comments, or words of advice.

Thanks and best regards,

Gilson
