Murray riding mover was running OK. Took a short break and came back to start up and when I turn the key...nothing. Took the battery out and had it checked--its good. Replaced the fuse and tried again but when turning the key...nothing happens. Any ideas as to why to try next. I thought it might be the ingition switch but that looks pretty hard to replace. Anything else before I try that?

When you depress the drive pedal to forward OR reverse, can you see the axles spinning inside the wheel hub?? If the rear wheel was ever removed, the wheel hub key could have been pushed out the back when the wheel was put back on. This is pretty common. Then...the axle just freespins inside the hub and...you don't move, F or R. If there's a square metal plate on the rear of this unit, this means it's a Peerless VST transaxle. Peerless makes an inexpensive oil and bellows kit (part# 799030) which can restore these things. Instructions are included in the box. If you confirm the drive belt is turning the input pulley on top of the transaxle, and NOTHING'S happening, then....more in depth work may be required, such as the bellows kit or checking that the wheel hubs are secured. By the way, a NEW transaxle for this mower is $500 and rarely do owners of a 4-5 year old Murray see the need of spending that kind of money on one of these. NOT...when you can buy a new one for $800-900. T-Man

If you can see where the gear on the starter is, squirt a short burst of WD-40 on it, let it soak in, then try it. If that fails, then remove the starter gear cover-usually held on by 2 small bolts, with 5/16 or 1/4 inch head bolts , and try to free up the starter gear.. See if any teeth are missing from the gear. Or the flywheel gear. Also, if the battery isn't charged very good, that may cause the same problem. The mousie nest may also be shorting out something in the sparking area.
