Clematis seiboldii florida: z.5 anyone?

i have been in love with this ever since first seeing it in PNW 20 yrs ago. Though tags always give zone as z.4 up, what is your experience?I never bought it because i was told the z.4 thing was hogwash, BUT i finally broke down and got a many bloom one for my bday this wkend.

If you know the claims of z.4 or 5 to be hogwash as well, do you have any advice for wintering it over? I had two z.5 hardy clems, potted in large glazed urns, stored on my screen porch last winter and they both did fine.i'm guessing that method might work with this one, but if I don't want to pot it; might it be enough to plant it and apply a heavy thick leaf mulch , do you think?

thank you for your help.

just could not resist this time!

best,

mindy
