That could have a couple different ignition systems according to the Kohler service manual.

If it's a battery/points system, 12V is not being shut off at the coil. That would indicate a bad ignition switch or the coil wire shorted to a 12 Volt supply, such as a charging system wire etc.

The other type uses a kill wire.
That is grounded to kill spark.

Using the wrong procedure to trouble shoot can result in fried parts/melted wires.

It's a Briggs & Stratton motor. How do I fix it to shut off at the coil or figure out if the coil wire is shorted out. Thank you for your time and help.

Are you sure it's a 110 and NOT an L110 or LT110?
I guess it doesn't matter, since all 3 supposedly came with Kohlers???

Some OLD Briggs had battery/points ignition or those with a starter motor/generator.

We have to make sure we pick the right system or you'll see $ vaporize before your eyes.

I'm sorry, it's not a 110 the tractor is a 111 model 253707 with a Briggs & Stratton 11 HP motor. Sorry for the mistake.

There should be a wire from the M terminal of the key switch to the magneto.
This wire is GROUNDED when the key is OFF to kill spark.

Either the wire is disconnected or the key switch is bad.

I simply don't have access to JD schematics.

The kill wire would go up under the engine shrould.
Of course, so do the alternator wire(s).

What I would suggest is remove the shroud.
(your cooling fins probably need to be cleaned anyway)
Physically observe which wire connects to the magneto "tab".
Trace that wire back to the key switch.
It will likely go through various safety switches, such as brake/clutch switch & PTO/attachment switch.

Somewhere along the line, you should find a bad connection.
It could also be a bad safety switch.
Usually, it seems they fail in the opposite manner though...

THANK YOU THANK YOU I started tracing wires and found the broken wire. I fixed it, started the tractor, then turned on the PTO, shut the PTO off and then turned the key off and the the tractor stopped running. Oh, it was really nice of you to help me out. I try to start my john deere after the battery went dead charged it full charged it started right up but when i turned the icnition key off it kept running so i unplugged the switch it kept running no way to stop it so it ran the battery dead again. I'm lost hope you can help me

If you have the tools, I would check the battery and charging circuit. If this circuit is working you would not be able to run the engine until the battery was drained.

You could run out of gas, but if it is working not drain the battery.

Note: in the future, when the standard function to hot stop the engine, you can stop the motor by shorting the spark plug to the block with a screw driver. I have done this numerous times with small engines. In fact, on some of the older engines there was a strip of metal attached to the engine,, that you would push against the plug to stop the engine.

I am new to dual cylinder engine, so you may have to short both plugs at the same time to stop that type of engine.

Did the engine itself stay running or the starter?

IT does not start it trys too but when i turn the key off it still trys to star just crans over till the battery is dead so i charged it up same thing so i pulled the switch wires and unpluged juice it still kept running hope you can help me thanks.

Typically the two things that fail that cause this are the key switch, which you had eliminated and the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid is at the end of your + battery cable. The solenoid is basically a heavy duty relay switch and sometimes will stick on. You hadn't said which model you had, so should you need anything further- that would be good to know. Happy New Year.
