Calm down. Transplant shock. They didn't like being moved. The plants were starting to grow feeder roots, and those are fragile. They should have been thoroughly watered before and after transplanting. Keep watering.

Well I'm not a newbie and did the same thing last year. You may lose the buds, but the plant will be fine. It may benefit from some sun protection while it's acclimating to it's new home.

DON'T SAY IT TRISH, DON'T SAY IT!!

I transplanted Blaze and Night Owl this weekend and planted an unnamed pink hybrid tea. All three had a little leaf wiltage and I just removed the wilty leaves. Seems like the sooner I take those off the sooner the plant will be inclined to start putting on new growth.

I know in some situations trimming back your rose after transplanting is a good idea. Perhaps that is the case for you.

The stems from the newly planted bareroots did crisp up after sun down. I was happy that it showed signs of recovery. But today it was 80 F (I did water it in the morning)and the tops of the plant drooped again. Like Diane said I decided to give them some protection from the sun(since I did observe they were up at sundown yday..) I have made holes in white grocery bags and tied it around the plants. Hope this helps them during recovery...

Make sure the bags don't touch the canes or those will fry too.

Thank you Diane for all the support. The plants are now doing fine. I was lucky to get by with just a few leaflets fried. the buds are doing OK . Phew! I will think twice before I move roses again.. Not worth the anxiety. Need a better seasoned hand (and head) to move roses!

Spraying the roses with Wiltproof will help to retain moisture in the canes and leaves of the plants; it's better done in early morning. Instead of a plastic bag you can try a piece of cheese cloth draped over some support, like a tomato cage, for example.
