Troy-Bilt Tomahawk Chipper - drive belt

Haven't used my Troy-bilt chipper in some years but got it started but when I went to engage the friction clutch (idler pulley) for the blades, the engine choked out seeming like the belt grabbed onto the drive pulleys, even by "nursing" it in. Tried narrower belt, and a shorter belt but still working really hard to get the blades to turn.

When powered up, any load on the unit slowed the blades down, not the engine which lead me to believe I still have a slipping belt. Gone from a spec 5/8 x 29" belt to a 1/2 x 28" belt.

Looked for grease fittings on the blade side of the unit; none found. All this in an effort to get the unit turning more freely.

Any constructive suggestion appreciated!
