hi! I ordered one from them last year at this time of year and ended up getting 2. Both of them are doing fine but it took a while to get them to break dormancy. It is much hotter here though.

I buy from the Jungs nursery near me, but I've never mail ordered their roses. I'm worried it would be too late for their bareroots. I know the ones in the store broke dormancy a while ago. They're all on sale now but I ignore them as most of them are too far along to do well if I planted them now. Hopefully their shipped roses would be in better storage though.

You should be able to find Ebb Tide at any nursery that carries Weeks roses if you have one near you.

I don't know how central you are, but there is a nursery in Rockford that carries Ebb Tide in a very nice sized container for $22.95. I guess it depends on how far you want to drive!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I live close by Peoria and the two nurseries barely carry any roses at all; mostly J&P. It IS tempting to drive to Rockford, but it would cost me $$ for gas right now. I will probably have to just wait until next year. I planted a couple of bands last year in June and it was just too hot for them to live.
I did call Jungs and they said the last shipment they got in of bareroots was the beginning of April, so I think I'd better pass them up, even though I really want them.

Keep an eye on DutchGardens.com they show Ebb Tide sold out but has come back twice for 5.99. I have 2 so didnt take advantage of the price.

My suggestion is to go ahead and order but tell them clearly that you do not want them unless they are green and beginning to grow...no dead black sticks! I Had to tell Jungs that about my first shipment of Firefighters and was delighted with the replacement order...the first was...yes, dead black sticks!

We went to chicago last saturday and drove through Rockford .I could have picked Ebb tide for you.Any way I wanted to let you know about the 2009 AARS winners mentined in the other thread. The Luthy Botanical garden in peoria is one of the test gardens and they always plant groups of 6-8 new roses to be marketed next year.I was there today and saw the pink blend rose in the ground with a tag '2009 AARS winner'The flower looked nice.They have another new one the carefree spirit for sale .The lady at the gift shop said that it is a yellow coloured rose .I wanted to look it up before buying .So I kept it on hold.(It is in the cold frame in case you decide to get it).And also they have a russet coloured 2009 rose with lot of buds and a couple of blooms with out a name tag .The blooms resemble hot cocoa to some extent(I have recently bought a own root hot cocoa from Home depot)The bushes(priced at $15.00 each) are in a better shape than the once I bought at Greenview nursary(29.99 each).So if you would like to buy Cinko de mayo or care free spirit go to luthy botanical garden Asap.They have only one of each and they sell out fast. They had several George burns last week and today I couldn't find one to buy.If you happen to go there go into the garden and look at the new AARS winners they have planted.Please keep me posted about your plans as I want to do some thing about the plant I have kept on hold.Oh by the way I bought Falling in love for $5.00.It is a bare root potted in a five gallon pot with a few promising buds Unlike others they were selling this one hasn't leafed out yet .So I got a deal.I prunned the dried tips of the 3-4 thick fat canes ,misted them and covered with a transparent grocery bag(the ones we put bananas in the grocery store)and am hoping that it will start leafing soon.

Hello Dana - I had no idea that Luthy sold roses or that they had a test garden. Cool! Right now I only have spacaes open in the garden for the Ebb Tides, but thanks for the offer. BTW, how are the Moonlight Magics doing that you bought? I found a bunch more at Wal-Mart that looked even better and they are all leafed out and growing. Can't wait for them to bloom.

Terry if you don't have room for roses other than ebb tides ,I will stop tempting you with other roses available locally.The moonlight magic I bought at K mart bloomed a while ago and the blooms were pale pinkish with good fragrance.The walmart rose has buds on it right now and from what I could see the color looks different(dark lavender).Iam anxious to see the color of this one .Hopefully I got atleast one correctly labelled one.How many did you get? Can you post a picture when they bloom?

I got two Ebb Tides from Dutch Gardens last year. One died very quickly and the othe did survive but was kind of a runty grower the rest of the year. However it sailed through our winter with ease and this year is growing and blooming vigorously. I would estimate that it has 40-50 buds on it and the bush is super looking.
I bought a Barbara Streisand and a Gentle Giant this year from them and they were packed terribly just like the ET roses last year. They were dry as a bone so I soaked them for a couple of days before potting them up. Now about 7-10 days have gone by and they appear to be okay so far so I have high hopes the stress of the trip isn't going to do them in.
Dutch Gardens refunded my money on the Ebb Tide and a Vavoom on last years order that died without breaking dormancy. I notified them this year that these two roses were packed terribly as well as the wet shredded paper that is supposed to be wrapped around the roots was just laying in the bottom of the box. The root systems were dry as a bone. They look okay so far so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they come out of any funk they are in and turn into good bushes like the one Ebb Tide that lived from last years order.

Anyone else see A LOT of die back on their Ebb Tide?

EbbTide is a vigorous rose, you might order it own-root from Chamblees in Texas. If planted right away and never allowed to go dry it should settle in quickly. When I lived up north I always plnated bare-root roses in the fall and hilled them up. Never lost a one!

They have Ebb Tides at a nursery in Bloomingdale, IL called Platt Hill which would be closer for you and is only a few miles off the highway as well.

Actually, I should post my own thread about the rose stock that they have. When I first started researching roses I pulled a lot of recommendations from this site. I have some from Roses Unlimited but almost everything on my list and most of the most recommended on this forum (for zone 5) are in stock and in beautiful condition at Platt Hill. They are $21.95 but they are in 2.6 gallon pots and they have all been very healthy for me.

Be careful though, the roses there are so beautiful that I end up walking out with twice as many as I went in there for every time and it is only 10 minutes from my house. I'm going to need to add "roses" as a line item on my budget soon.

So many of you folks are from this general area....Bloomingdale is about an hour and a half from me, almost due east. DON'T tempt me!

My Ebb Tides from Dutch gardens arrived in very good condition, even though the packing was terrible. I also ordered a Barbra Streisand and Lasting Love from DG. The roots weren't nearly as moist, but I bucketed them right away and then planted after about three days in the water. They are finally starting to foliate.

My Ebb Tides are doing fine, although growing slowly. The weather certainly isn't helping.

Yes, I may be an enabler. However, just imagine the torture of living 10 minutes from a place that has four greenhouses full of gorgeous, healthy, full of buds roses. Ah, sweet torture.

At least I don't spend much in gas getting there. :-)

Diana, I got really excited because I thought Platt Hill was in Bloomington, then I realized your post said Bloomingdale. Ah, yes, Chicago...land of the highest gas prices in the nation right now. So it appears that I might have to wait until next year.

Barbara, I prefer own-root roses, so I'm probably better off waiting. High Country should have own root at the end of June, but it's awfully hot then to plant, IMO. I've lost roses then. Righ tnow we're having such cool, cloudy weather it would still be a great time to get them established before or if summer ever gets here.

BTW Dana, your MM must be ahead of mine. No buds in sight yet. Doesn't sound like the KMart rose is MM, but maybe the WalMart one is? Interesting. I planted mine really deep; about 6". I'm determined not to give them a chance to die due to freezing. I've never had good luck with HTs.

I had gotten 'Ebb Tide' from Chamblees in the fall of '07 (September) and planted it. It survived our winter with no damage and is fully leafed out. I am awaiting to see any bud formation. All of Chamblees roses are own root and ungrafted to a common rootstock.

I haven't tried rooting so far. I have picked rooting powder last week.I would love to try Rooting honeysweet. I have a couple of roses(Lavonde and Amelia renaissance )I like to root also.I went to hoerr nursary with the intention of buying Honeysweet and came home with April in paris .Honey sweet bushes didn't have blooms on them and I like to look at the blooms before buying.I thought I would go back and buy it next week or so.Thanks for offering the cuttings.Have you looked at the wayside sane they are talking about here?I would like to have Buxom beauty and St Patrik.If only I haven't bought four roses(cherry parfait,Janet,Pope john paul and April in paris at the local nusary)I would have
taken advantage of the sale.
Iam not good at making bushes out of bare root roses .My success with them in the past was low.So I planted them in the pots and had them indoors till May.That is the reason why I had blooms in April .That could be the reason why all the blooms were pale(not enough sunlight).The moolight magic could might bloom with darker color in sun.I plan to put two of them next to each other.I have to work on putting them in the ground soon.Thanks.

Dana, when Honey Sweet blooms, I'll send up a flag and have you come over so you can see if you like her. I think you will. BTW, the milk carton roses that I bought at Menards thanks to your enabling are doing great! In fact, they are looking better than any that I bought from Pickering, Regans, etc. This is the first year I have tried bareroots, and I have been very happy with the results so far. Now if it would warm up and we would get some blooms! And I haven't looked at Wayside yet; didn't know about the sale; thanks for the heads up.
