I know of ardent rose growers who would visit Europe, find a good rose that's only available there, buy the rose from the local nursery, take bud woods off those roses, and courier them back home, where they have someone waiting to bud them on as soon as they arrive. This gets over the barrier of not being able to bring in any plants that are rooted in native soil. So, If J and P's roses are all on Dr. Huey, and you prefer own-roots, would it be reasonable to get the rose anyway, grow it in a container, take cuttings from it and start your own "own root" versions of it?

As Dave said, apples and oranges. Tomatoes can be canned BWB. From that data a PC processing time can be extrapolated. If they (USDA/NCHFP) wanted to develop a PC time for tomatoes WITHOUT lemon juice they'd have to start from scratch. Money being tight . . . You get the picture. It all depends on how the recipe was tested. Some were tested and developed without additional acid, some with it. The processing times and methods will differ due to differences in pH. Most agree the least "instrusive" amendment for tomatoes in terms of flavor is citric acid. I use that. Then comes lemon juice and last is vinegar, which it's OK to use (for safety) but not recommended due to its strong flavor. It's funny. By 1917 the USDA had arrived at the conclusion that pressure canning was the only truly "safe" option for low-acid veggies, specifically green beans. Canning books continued to offer BWB times (180 minutes for green beans in my 1948 Kerr book) as an option for those who COULDN'T pressure can. BUT they always made it clear that BWB was the riskier choice AND they accompanied BWB instructions with two caveats: 1) NEVER taste low-acid vegetables straight from the jar. 2) ALWAYS boil low-acid foods 10-15 minutes in an open vessel before consuming. In other words, canners who insist on processing low-acid foods in a BWB are just about 100 years behind the times. It's a gamble. You might go years with no identifiable negative consequences of eating BWB green beans. Or you might not. My personal rule is to never eat low-acid home-canned foods unless I know how they were processed. It's like safe sex. Carol

Do you mean that the installer would run the refrigerant lines now for the paired units upstairs for installation now. And would also run a second line set that right now would not be used, but be "in the walls" and ready to go if you add in a second multihead condensing unit outside for use in the downstairs bedroom and dining room. It is true that putting in the copper refrigerant lines now would make the tech's work easier if you added in an identical system downstairs in the future. But if you need different capacity in the future downstairs, that lineset size may not be the correct one, making this all extra expense for no result. If you know that you eventually want to condition all of these rooms, you might consider right now buying a larger capacity outdoor unit that can serve 4 indoor units. I didn't pull the specs on your unit, but am "best guess-ing" from the nomenclature that it is a 2 ton multihead condensing unit. So you would need a second one to do the downstairs rooms. You may be able to find a system that can function with 2 to 4 airhandler units and work with both 2 now and 4 later. (It may not work, but you would want to check, based on your home load profile.)

In order to watch full screen video over land lines, be it copper phone lines or fiber optic, you need lots of bandwidth (high data speed). If you have optical cable sevice, you may be in luck. If you have only metal phone lines, you are likely out-of-luck. Phone companies such as AT&T have made good strides in recent years in boosting the data flow over phone lines, but the last time I investigated, there was a caveat, and that the length of copper phone wire between your house and the phone exchange building. Good bandwidth for DSL can be had for line lengths up to a mile. At one mile, a drop in performance (data speed) is noticed. DSL internet service can be provided at longer distances, but data quality and speed reduces. In my opinion, data speed over a copper phone line one mile in length is too slow for viewing full screen TV. You need to talk to your local provider to see what they have to offer. Phone companies such as Windstream and Frontier have been extending fiber optic lines into rural areas and if you have one of these, you may have enough data speed to support what you wish to do, but since yours is a fishing cottage remote from population centers, I doubt it. Another option is TV, internet, and phone over a cable service such as Time Warner. Beware that 911 calls and location identification probably will not work over cable service. There is one more "gotcha" for DSL or Cable TV: This service works fine for few users sharing the same equipment. But, if the line gets too busy with many users, service suffers. That depends on how much installed capacity there is to be shared by all. I have DSL in a medium sized town. My service is ok most fo the time, but there are periods when it stinks. Those periods are from 3 to 6 pm and after midnight. School attendees and adults hit the line from 3tot 6 pm; Typically, system maintence occurs after midnight and sometimes Friday night and Saturday. Some folks have tried internet over sattelite link. Transmission delays over the very large distance makes internet interaction action iffy. TV reception is not affected by this delay because it is a one-way data flow. Satellite signal strenght is affected by moisture content of the atmosphere. Rain, sleet, and snow can block transmission. Hopefully, the fish will be biting and you won't have time for TV.
