Mutant Asiatic Lily

One asiatic lily plant came out white. Ive had these plants for a long time. I divided and planted this group about 2 years ago. I have never seen them come out white, has anyone else? Does anyone know what causes it?

ok, your picture reflects an iris. Are you talking about irises? Am sure plants that produce seedlings can come not true to parent. I do not grow German iris so not familiar with them.

pardon this is siberian iris, pic looked fuzzy on my computer
and they do come in all colors

Hi gardenbench, Are you certain these are native Turk's-cap Lily Lilium superbum which have a green star at the center, as opposed to the more common introduced Lillium lancifolium which I think is what I already have. haha, yes, sounds like a mutation, a 'normal' mutation. We have a clematis that does this kind of thing, with some petals deciding they prefer to be leaves and such things. I believe it's very common in Clematis. Never seen it in a water lilly Andy, but my guess is it's a mutation in only that flowerhead and when it dies the mutation will die with it. That's not to say it won't happen again!

If you meant to post the next photo from your album, it is not an Asiatic either. It is a white Oriental Lily, probably 'Casablanca'.

Alina, no its not that one.

These have a very small flower. You can see the same in the back ground.
When I got them eons ago I ordered them as oriental Iris but someone else told me they were Asiatic.

OK so Oriental then I stand corrected.
Ill get a clearer picture tomorrow, its dark now.
