Packing peanuts ???
Comments (15)I really didn't know that peanuts are now biodegradable. They melt when water hits them, so if this is the kind you are using, they won't do what you expect. I used some inside of planting sleeves around my grapevines last year to help insulate them from the heat, and when the water hit them, they melted!! I had no clue they are now biodegradable! Read that post here in this forum about the SWC from Mexico. Those folks put leaves and grass cuttings in the container, and it makes it much lighter, and the dirt doesn't sift down into that. They don't use a drain on the bottom, but put a drain on the side, so there is a water reservoir that gives humidity to the pot. I think it's pretty interesting as a concept. Comments (52)Yea, yea, yea... Nice of you to be so stereotypical. I started this topic because I wanted some information and got it! The thread turned into a very informative, useful and entertaining piece. Your post is part of the "entertainment!" LOL. And, BTW, here is "the rest of the story;" The squirrels you love kept raiding my bird feeder. I peppered their backsides with BBs hoping they would get the message and stay away. I guess squirrels are not one of the brightest creatures on the planet! So... I got the pellet gun out, gave it 15 pumps and terminated one squirrel. I left his lousy carcass lie in its tracks for a couple of days and haven't had a squirrel problem since. End of story and "no SHAME" on me. As James Brown sang, "I feel good!" BTW, Never did use the POP/PB balls =(...See MoreGreens ? or Browns?
Comments (9)What we do is put landscape cloth down over some beds that we mulch heavily in winter. Then pile these beds with lots of shredded leaves easy to get in fall. In Spring we just pick up the ends of the landscape cloth and bundle them up full of leaves that we then use with grass clippings once the mowing begins. Just a note: when picking up leaves in spring that have been used for winter cover we always leave openings in the picked up landscape cloth. The same reason that plastic bags of leaves should be left open and not tied up for a day or two. This allows the lady bugs to make their way to the top and either crawl or fly out. If you have lots of lady bugs then clear leaf bags let you see them and you can give a few ladybugs a helping hand....See MoreStarting seeds in packing peanuts
Comments (2)That's funny Karyn! Like you, I had no idea there was biodegradable styrofoam. Good luck with your seeds!...See Morealbert_135 39.17°N 119.76°W 4695ft.
