My first rose!!! Camelot :)

I've been lurking this forum for a few months, and picked up two at Walmart - they were unloading the boxes and I was opening them before they were even stocked on the shelves :) I bought a Camelot and a Mr. Lincoln, not in a body bag but in a biodegradable planter. I took that part off, and planted the roses. Today, my Camelot opened!!!! This is my new camera, too :)

Congratulations, Christy! I've been unsuccessfully trying to get a Camelot for about 6 years now, lol! Every one I've bought has been mis-labeled but yours looks like the real thing.

You absolutely did the right thing by taking the peat pot off to plant. I know they say they are biodegradable but they take decades to do so. In the mean time you have a very root bound rose that will eventually fail.

You and your new camera took some great photos too!

Reines has bloomed! :) It smells so wonderful! Ingrid, I have 2 antiques and then an Easy Does It, Strike it Rich, 2 knock outs and a tea rose. First year they're all in the ground so it's taking longer for them to bloom but so much fun coming home each day and seeing what treat my garden has in store. :)

Thanks!! That is a brand new garden bed. The roses were planted last year, and my husband filled it in and planted several small plants around it, annuals and perennials. They should all fill in pretty quickly :) The kids went on a lady bug hunt it the backyard yesterday, and collected around 30 of them. Then they relocated them to my new garden bed. All of the kids in the neighborhood collect lady bugs to put in my beds, they are so cute!! My milkweeds getting annihilated by aphids every year, so far I haven't seen any yet, but I know they'll be back soon :( Christy

wow cool. In the morning. you can spray it with aerated compost tea. and spray with seaweed foliar feed. as long as the leaves stay dry. It looks really healthy. And you can mix up a batch of fermented alfalfa compost tea to get gangbusters blooms. Hope we can see more pictures.

I will take pics...Been sick for a few days... I am beginning to think that for some of us growing 'roses' is an ALL season project..Not only do I have to protect them but I also have to watch out they don't desiccate in the winter too..If the snow should not fall and the bare ground is exposed to sub 0 temps or higher with whipping winds, the ground can go bone dry even in winter..So here I am watering all my roses deeply on the first given warm day above 40.....I know that many die just to a lack of moisture in the dead of winter... Thanks for the encouragement.. It does fell like I want to garden out there too since my temp is a balmy 60 degrees right now! Back to the low 20's by day and single digits by Saturday night with a bare ground again..My bulbs are starting to pop up...lol

Congratulations, Christy! Now, learn to propagate, root a Camelot for Seil and get more in trade for you to root and create your rose garden with. It's a whole lot more fun to propagate your own bushes (from unpatented material, of course!) than having to wait and buy what the local stores sell. It opens some tremendous doors to grow some pretty amazing roses! Kim

Thanks!!!! I am thrilled with it :) A second bloom opened yesterday. This one was knocked over by a very heavy thunderstorm so I cut it off and it is right next to my kitchen sink, beautiful!! My Mr. Lincoln looks like it'll bloom by next week, I'm so excited!!! I would love to learn how to propagate to share. I've done African Violets and Jades, I'm sure I can handle a rose!!
