If you are looking for true blue versus any with a purple or lavender tint, check out this thread further down the front page of this forum.

Be sure to check if they are suitable for your zone. Suggested plants were pretty comprehensive.

I was looking at a wildflower page earlier today, sold as seeds by region, looked at midwest, and got some ideas that would work well mixed in my beds. Place is in Wisconsin called Everwilde Farms, Inc. Some were blue, but there were a few others I liked.

I love blue, too. A new additon to my gardens this year is Dutch iris. They have a few different colors, but the blue is beautiful. They are coming into bloom now. The leaves come up about a month or so before the blooms. Baptisias are beautiful, too.

First off are you wanting it for full sun or shade or partial shade??

Salvia victoria blue does wonderful in full sun, it does have purple tints at first but later in the season it does look more blue. I border 6 7 and in my full sun beds it comes back each year, if I dont cut it back in the fall. Salvia victoria blue also is a very long bloomer mine blooms from late spring till frost. (mine has been blooming now for about a month)

Agapanthus Lilly of the Nile is also blue, it likes full sun and it also has leaves like your spiderwort. Downside to this one that it takes 2 to 3 years to bloom from seed and germination is a very long process.

Perenial Plumbago, this blooms a true blue one of the truest I have ever found in a garden. It will grow in full sun or partial shade, but it does not like wet feet in the winter. It blooms from early summer till frost and is a low grower, mine gets about 4 to 5 inches high. It spreads through rhizomes and spreads to make mounds. It also turns red/ burgundy in fall, though its late to come back in the spring.

There are a few other "blue" colored plants I am planting this year but these three I know for sure are close to blue or are blue. Tricky part alot of times when they say blue its really purple. My favorite is the salvia victoria blue it has height if thats what your looking for and an extremely long bloom. Anywho I hope that helps ya. Thanks, Carolyn

Carolyn, I have been looking at pics of the Salvia victoria , and I agree 100%, especially when I read a post from someone about pinching them. Now I have to find some seed. Do they grow easily from seed? I am in zone 6-6b, sounds like there is a possibility they may be hardy for me. Oh, and by the way, I am looking for things that can tolorate full sun to part sun. I have very little shady areas.

Brunnera 'Jack Frost' is indeed a wonderful blue perennial.

Yes, they grow extremely easy from seed. From the looks of the seed I just grew it looks as they may bloom from the first year also. I love that plant so much that I had to buy more seeds along with spliting my existing plants. P.S I first bought my plant at a nursery it was sold as an annual I think I paid like .99 for a flat of 6. I have had it now for 4 years.

I love Veronica spicata 'Royal Candles'. They grow in very compact little mounds, with beautiful blue spires that are in full glory here in zone 5 in early July. Mine are just starting to bloom. They are very orderly little plants, increasing in size but staying in their neat little mounds. The one I planted two years ago has doubled in size.
