OK, just trying to save the young gardener money. My initial thought was for him to run a scientific trial himself this year and use the results of that trial next year. That was my reference to his age. He has time and (hopefully) no financial pressure to produce a more profitable crop. Obviously garden centers sell pumpkin and squash transplants. They sell, many people want to buy plants. A big part of the attraction of planting transplants against direct seeding is weed management. I will not elaborate on that point any more. By all means get a greenhouse and give it a try this year. As we have seen from HFGH owners look at spending around a thousand dollars for a completed one. I only have a small pumkin patch, and I direct seed because the years I did transplants and direct seed I could not really say there was any difference with my little crop in the fall. Also I need the room in the greenhouse in spring to grow higher value crops. If 4H does get a greenhouse get it in the next month or so. Plant onion seeds in flats as soon as you can. Don't bother with heat for them. You can sell the transplants before you need the greenhouse for the pumpkins, that way you get a cash crop in april as well as october. Also onions in the pumpkin patch are very compatable. Think about it.... My pumpkin/gourd/squash patch is two acres, give or take a few thousand square feet.

That coupon does not work because it is counterfeit. Both my local HF stores have a copy posted telling you this. On the other hand, HF almost always has a printable 10% off coupon. Google "harbor freight coupon" and you can find what they are currently offering. Also if you get the catalogs in the mail about once a week like I do, they often have a 15% off coupon.

I used the Grocery Game for a few months and saw a significant savings. It was time consuming cutting the coupons and creating a filing system, but once I found a system that worked, I had it made. I don't have alot of room to stockpile like they advocate, but I saved alot of money. There were many times I used the coupons and got $200 worth of groceries for about $20. The drawback of the grocery game is it is time consuming. I'd have to go to the store to buy the Sunday Paper, clip the coupons, file them - all on a Sunday, then I only had until Tuesday to go shopping. This was ok when I wasn't working, but once I started a FT job, something had to give. I just didn't have time for it anymore, so I gave up my membership. I think if there is something available online free and in advance like xamsx noted above, I would be more inclined to use that. The Grocery Game (aka Teri's list) was just too rushed for me.
