Anyone familar with Satyr Hill American HOlly?
Comments (15)Pineresin, no doubt, deer will eat hollies, but they have neither touched the one in my front yard, nor the Nellie Stevens and Foster Hollies in my neighbors yard. I know they will eat most anything if they are hungry enough, but our yards have been spared. Bboy, thanks for your "research." Excuse my ignorance, but the Satyr Hill is only available in the female form?? So I guess I just hope that it will produce berries, considering there are many hollies in close proximity to where these hollies will be planted. My knowledge with ilex opaca very is limited and that is why these forums are a great resource. Thank you, Bboy! Yes, kman, you are a stick in the mud. There is no holly forum of which I am aware, guess I should have posted in the Trees forum. Have you any worthwhile comments to add re. the topic? I thank all of you who offered helpful information and advice. I think I will take my chances and go for the Satyr Hill Hollies....See MoreAnyone heard of Silca System for elevated patio?
Comments (11)Andi, if you want travertine it can be done, and not all that expensive. The pressure treated deck framing must be stiff enough for tile, I used 2x10s 12"OC. My framer kept saying I was way overbuilding it, but that's what it takes to put natural stone on top. Then I used pressure treated 3/4 plywood, glued and nailed. Finally, we put down a waterproof/uncoupling membrane from Protecto Wrap. It was like 3' wide pieces of the window flashing tape. You can special order it through HomeDepot. Then we tiled right on top. A proper structure underneath will allow you to tile on a raised deck. I spent about $2K on the membrane for about 1,200 sq ft of deck....See MoreHas anyone used this PB in Northern Virginia?
Comments (1)I can't help you with Baldwin Pools, but I've heard great things about Pools by Young. Several of my friends in NoVA used them, and that's who we plan to call when we are ready for ours. Here is a link that might be useful: Pools by Young...See MoreHelp! Anyone heard of Perkins Cancela-Vaz in Virginia?
Comments (0)In the process of getting pool estimates -- one from a gunite company that was just through the roof; one from a fiberglass installer with great...and I mean GREAT references, a fair price but whose fiberglass company doesn't have a model that I'm enthralled with; and finally one from a fiberglass installer with the pool I want at a price I like...but I know nothing about this company. Searched the internet, searched the BBB and I can't come up with anything positive or negative. He gave me the contact info for one reference, which he had available on his cell phone (and whom I've called but not heard back from yet), and said he would get more for me. But in the meantime, has anyone in the VA area had ANY dealings with Perkins Cancela-Vaz Corp? Thanks in advance for any and all info....See MoreDave in NoVA • N. Virginia • zone 7A
