traction

My new craftsman pro is working great except that I just can't get to parts of my yard due to traction. I'm definately going to buy the wheel weights as soon as I can get to town. My question is, do lug tires help with slope traction? I know they work well on big tractors for bucket and grading on more level terrain. I don't remember them tearing up the yard as long as the ground wasn't soggy. Just never see them on garden tractors and wonder if they may actually decrease traction on sloped dry grass.

PS. These aren't "tip-over" kinds of slopes. Just longer than tractor can maintain traction without rocking and leaning. I have areas that simply get weed whacked twice a year. I'm not crazy.
