Gas Tank Cleaning

I have a 1989 JD 265 with the Kawa FC540V engine. Last year I had a problem with the engine losing power after about a half hour. After replacing the coil and ignitor and sparkplug without success someone on this forum suggested it could be "crap" in the gastank. I had the tank cleaned and no further problems unti my second cut this year. After filling tank and cutting for about a half hour, while approaching the crest of a steep hill, the engine started to lose power. I shut it off, waited five minutes and restarted. It started up immediately, but after a few minutes problem reoccured. These are exactly the same symptoms as I had last year- before I cleaned the tank. I plan to have the tank cleaned again and I will also replace the fuel line to the gas filter. Has anyone had a similar problem and what was the fix? What's the best way to clean the tank? ( I would buy a new tank but JD says they are no longer available) Any suggestions or comments? Thanks to all.
