Kohler 14 HP Blowby Problem
Comments (4)click on forum, most people don't open up gallery. gallery is a place for pictures normally, or at least that's what I've been told. Compression is getting pass the rings, things you need to know are piston to bore clearences, ring end gap clearences, side gap, and for proper lignment (end gaps off set), valve seat and stem clearences, head for cracks, head gasket servicability, and figure out the vent system to see if anything is clogged. IMO it's 20 years old it's probably got piston to bore wear especially if you can move the piston from side to side in the bore and probabaly some valve wear issues....See MoreCraftsman tractor w/ 17hp Kohler stalling out
Comments (64)The question was posed in 2009. It's now 2019. I expect most prolly everyone solved their problem by getting a new lawmower. But since you are here.... I have a hand-me-down Craftsman with a 16.5HP Kohler engine. After I changed the fuel filter the thing started stalling out on hills, etc. Same places. Same everything. It drove me nuts so I came to places like this for a clue. IF you are having the stalling problem after changing the filter...get the right filter. Heck, I went to a local mower shop to get the right filter and the owner refused to sell me one. Said I had the BEST filter already. Jeez. So I went elsewhere and got the right filter....same as the one I replaced and today...no problems. This is not all good bekez I had a new Cub Cadet all picked out. Dang! Listen...the right filter is on Amazon. So if you messed up like I did and got the one they said would work...the larger one...then go back to the smaller one: Kohler Engines 25 050 21-S Fuel Filter If you can't find it by the number...get one that looks like it and fits the Kohler. Just that simple. Good luck! My good deed for the day....See MoreKohler 26 hp.. surge at full throttle
Comments (6)if engine air filter was that dirty, prolly need to start at the edge - change engine oil/filter, dump/replace fuel with fresh including dumping any in gas can.Flush gas can. Remove engine cooling shroud sheet metal - clean fins, repair any damaged wires. If you replace engine fuel filter, make SURE you refit with properly spcified kohler filter. Drain/clean carb - flush with carb cleaner rattlecan and compressed air. replace any disassembled gaskets - do not re-use. Make sure fuel tank is clean of old fuel and clear of any trash at bottom. Check fuel tank cap for vent OK. Check both throttle and choke cable adjustments per manual. Blow all exterior dirt off engine/tractor with compressed air. DO NOT use hose or pressure washer. Repsot back if still trouble....See MoreNew Kohler 26 hp Needs Choke to Restart
Comments (13)"The Owner's Manual suggests that a warm engine restart "may" not need choke." "The present generation of carburetted OPE has such lean operating parameters (thank you EPA and C.A.R.B.) that I think it may become more common for the need to apply choke (or partial choke) to restart even a warm engine." mownie has it right. I have a new 30hp Kohler Command Pro that has to be choked just about every time I crank if it sets longer then 15 or 20 minutes. Use to drive me nuts. But oh does it run! I've a buddy of mine that has a 28hp Kholer EFI that starts hot, cold, and even in the snow. Just the way it is. ms...See Morechris48
