Yellow Primrose, Bacopa and Creeping Jenny
Comments (10)Glenda, I thought bacopa was more on tropical and didn't know it was hardy to Zone 6 as per nancym1956's post. From Encyclopedia of Water Garden Plants the following: Bacopa caroliniana (Zones 9-11) Bacopa lengera 'Variegata' (Zones 9-11) Bacopa monnieri, aka Water Purslane (Zones 6-11) Bacopa myriophylloides, aka thin-leafed bacopa (Zones 9-11) Three out of four are tropical and won't survive your Zone 7b as per my reference, so to be on the safe side I'd bring some in and leave some out to see what happens unless you know you have the hardy type. Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' or Creeping Charlie is hardy in Zones 4 - 10, so no problems there. It does not have to overwintered in the water either, but in soil if you want. I have it growing in dry shade if that gives you any idea of how invasive it is and tough. For yellow primrose do you mean Ludwigia arcuta or Primula japonica or something else?...See More'Golden' Jenny vs. 'Creeping' Jenny
Comments (17)I would second "thistle5"s suggestion as a container addition, but I've found a twist. I have several large potted clematis that I overwinter, quite successfully, in my unheated garage (I'm in Zone 4). Last year, as a means of adding color interest, I planted some L. nummularia 'Aurea' around the base of the clematis. I was happy to find this spring that the 'Aurea' overwintered right along with the clematis and is happily rambling around the base of the potted clemmies this spring. The color contrast is great! - Becky...See MoreGolden Creeping Jenny, where to buy seeds?
Comments (14)I already have creeping charlie that came with the property. It is green with scalloped edged leaves that can get up to 1 and a half inches wide. I fight it all summer, every summer,in 10 out of the 12 beds. Thank goodness it is easy to pull. I have had Golden creeping Jenny in a part of my garden before. It is much slower then charlie and flatter to the ground. It also has had winter die back and has been burnt out by a hot spell and crowded out by it's taller fellows which has made it easy to keep ahead of. Where as charlie is an iron invader.I understand the nature of these creepers. I have given the same warnings many times to other new gardeners. I deal with creeper menace all summer, might as well be one I want. If it goes where I don't want it, it's not weeding, but lifting a new plant to put someplace else I would like some, lol Well since seeds are out and I will have to spend money anyway, is there another ground cover plant choice that would work better? The area at the base of roses, around daylilies and the nooks and granies. Thanks for your concerns. Elizabeth...See Morecreeping Jenny? The right Choice?
Comments (1)Yep, this would be the perfect groundcover for that spot. I have some of this on its third year, in a smallish spot that has stayed in bounds and looks gorgeous. It really does brighten up a dull area. It sometimes gets small yellow flowers. Really pretty and can be grown in sun/shade with moisture. Another mannerly groundcover is Lamium. I have 'Aurea' which is green/yellow and flowers spring/fall, even under snow at times. 'White nancy' is another good one. Jen...See Moreleslie197
