All the rain has ruined my roses

I am a rose newbie, so these may be stupid questions :)

I have 2 large knockout roses I planted over a year ago ... they were breathtaking until a monsoon hit this past week. It has rained so much my roses are all drooping and some canes are lying on the ground. I am hoping they bounce back.

I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help them?

Should I cut off the canes that are lying on the ground...or tie them up? Should I cut off all the buds that have already flowered to tidy it up? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am 72, finally used epsom salts!!!! dilute 1tblsp in warm water per foot of rose every 2 weeks! in 3/6 hours it makes leaves beautiful and makes neq canes fast! 🌹

I just had to cut off two canes on one of my roses that were laying on the ground from the weight of wet blooms. I didn't think they'd ever be upright. If you can shake the water off and trim off some of the spent blooms and see if they can will stand up right. Other wise I'd cut it back. The good thing with roses is that they are quick to recover from this type of thing. And in the long run, the rain is good for them and will help them regrow quickly.

If the blooms aren't spent I tie the canes, otherwise cut back.

The rain has been pretty intense here in Middle GA - everything is growing mildew. It's 1:45 pm and it has not rained yet today and I'm constantly checking the radar... it's supposed to be dry. It's hard to believe. My raised beds have been an enormous benefit - usually they dry out so fast, I spend much of the summer hauling hoses and changing out what got shorted on water so I could water something desperate. This year I'm hearing squooshing sounds when I walk between garden beds. My tomatoes are so sad - lots of disease, tho they are still sort of producing. Hardly any bird damage this year. The okra is pitiful. The peppers are worse and I have no idea what is wrong with the eggplant other than too many flea beetles and too much rain. My beans are growing by leaps and bounds, but almost no flowers on the limas and no pods. The rattlesnakes are growing, but even they are looking sad and are slower than usual. I'm hoping that the predicted dry for a few days will help me get some harvest. My corn mostly collapsed and is growing horizontally. (First year growing it for me.) This is the first year that I have had tarragon actually live tho. And I had a bumper crop of garlic and onions.

Some form of nitrogen will generally help trees in average soil establish more quickly, but a quarter pound of actual N. for a small tree could be damaging to the tender roots, I'm guessing. However, I am not speaking from the experience of this particular mistake- I have only damaged more sensitive plants with surface applications of excessive N- never fruit trees. Depends in part on texture of soil, in sandy soil your are more likely to scorch the roots- especially if the tree isn't mulched. Heavy watering can leach out the fertilizer in a hurry.

I renovated a little stand alone section of my backyard to begin with and we had a downpour 3 days later. 2 inches total! I slaved on that section to get the grade just perfect (1in every 10ft away from the house). I lost some seed along the edges too but on the bright side I now know the grade is good! :) I spread 1/4in peat moss over all the new seeds and that really seems to hold everything in place. You could try peat moss as a top dressing. A 3.8cu ft bale covers 192 sq.ft ($10/bale at Lowes)

oh, no!!!! How horrid!!! Hugs to you, Jeff. This is awful! And one of your beautiful tree roses smashed, how I hope and hope it wasn't your Julia Child!!! Such a dream tree rose ... I cannot believe the devastation... Hugs, hugs, hugs... Guys, hush with the rain! brings very bad luck/karma, don't mention a peep... that is what global warming is all -- sudden terrible storms and drenchers, from polar meltdowns for up-coasters like Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island, etc, and horrible increase of droughts for those landlocked... To terrifying to mention... I too am worried when tornados hit... My tree roses are now too heavy for me to carry in the house, so they will be left to fend for themselves if my BF is not there to help me bring them inside... I can just imagine myself having a complete nervous breakdown when Kansas gets its tornado winds... Jeff, your roses are soooo spectacular and stunning and I cannot even begin to fathom the huge shock and upset this must be...Tons of hugs and condolences... The only comfort is that you are such a good gardener, and they are lucky to have you... They will make their best recovery just for you I am sure of this!

No point in cutting the canes off unless they are broken; stake them temporarily and then cut back by maybe half after blooming to make them sturdier.

I hate our NY weather!
I worked much to keep our garden in shape. We try every possible way to better the fertilizing, spraying routine, etc. But then we had almost no sunshine in the whole month of May! Cloudy, cold (47-57 deg) and drizzle, (not even enough to irrigate). All the flowers are all droopy, "overcooked noodle" type and everything is wet. I see west coast people posting their rose pics in February... yet our first buds opened just this week.
What good is "organic everything" if there is no sunshine? They "recommend" 6-8 hours and day... yeah sure...lol

The sun is out and we're supposed to have four days without rain! Ten inches this month. I must have spent an hour cleaning up a climber that had a thousand flowers with 60 petals each, sodden for two weeks straight. It made me appreciate semi-doubles and singles.
