Laguna is a very hardy rose and will do very well in PA. We have trialed it in the south and it has done quite well so my question is where in Florida? It is not that all that thorny a rose but it is a fairly large climber and needs space. What is special about it is it has great resistance to Black Spot and is great at repeati flowering - and fragrance !

Who was the producer of this rose? The tag on the pot should say this -as we hate to see these roses mislabeled.

Mine (in a different 9b) does not have much repeat bloom, but excepting that, it's pretty good overall. Nasty prickles, yes. Not much fragrance either. Spring show is spectacular and lasts quite a long time. It gets really, really, big too so I hope you've got room.

The label on the pot indicates it came from the Berry Family of Nurseries, NC, and 'Laguna Place Co' was printed on the label on the pot. The Lowes tag attached to a cane of the rose was for 'Laguna Palace,' a white miniature rose. I can see how a mistake was made.

Our winter residence is in southwest Florida, south of Sarasota in North Port. We are not on the water. It is very humid and usually gets lots of rain in the summertime. We have a quarter acre, although I have filled it up with lots of plants already.

One of the reasons I hesitate to plant it here in PA (besides the voles that eat the roots over the winter) is that a few years ago I had rose rosette disease on several roses, so I gave up planting new roses here. That's my main reason for wanting to know how it would like Florida!

Laguna Palace (POULagun) is not a climber or a Kordes rose it is a pot rose bred by Poulsen and it is small and white. Quite a differnt rose and I think. It is probably an own root rose and should be reasonably hardy.

Laguna (KORadigel) by KOrdes is a large dark pink climber. In the PNW it reblooms all season and is above average on fragrance.

Totally off the rose, but I was so happy to discover this, I have to share it. Castor oil will get rid of our voles. You can spray a combination of castor oil and dish soap on the areas you especially want to protect, or get the dry product, Mole Relief, from Gardens Alive. It can be scattered and is very easy to use. It works! I hate voles and have lost too many plants to them. Good luvk.

I meant to add if this rose is pink that I don't think it is the Kordes Laguna as Berry Family Nursery does not grow this rose but ti might be another one of the Palace series so it should be a small rose.

Gary, I guess it will be a mystery rose if it isn't Laguna!

Hi Marcia, I was going to post what Gary said above--I'm betting your rose is not the kordes rose "laguna" but that the key word hint from your label is "palace" = probably another Paulsen rose from the "palace" series. quick search at helpmefind shows several pink minis in that series...maybe Regina palace...?

It's frustrating buying a rose that turns out to be something completely different. You certainly have an advantage of two completely different yards to put it in, but still its always nice to know specifically what you have so you know how it will grow in order to place it correctly! Do you think if you went back to that Lowes they could give you contact information of their supplier. You could then send that supplier the picture and have them give you the name. It is a very pretty rose!

I'm sorry that I didn't give any context about the size of the rose. It definitely is not a mini. The pot is a 2.25 gallon and the rose stands about 2 feet above the top of the pot.

I considered emailing the nursery, but then I thought I had figured out that it was really 'Laguna.' I realize they don't have a photo of that rose on their web site, but they don't have any other rose photos that seem to match the rose I have, either. So still a mystery!

I'm still undecided about whether or not to take it to Florida.

Marcia, do you have nematodes in your part of Florida? If you do, that may determine where you put it, since I doubt it's on Fortuniana.

Thanks for the photo of the plant - this is not the Kordes rose as the foliage is different and so is the flower - see image of the Kordes Laguna. I have not kept up with the newer varieites of Poulsen's Palace roses but they are polyantha roses and should not become climbers - this may or may not be a Palace. My bet is this is an own root rose as this series of roses is most often produced this way..

Saw the Kordes Laguna in New York Botanic last fall. It was a massive plant with huge foliage. The foliage was all the way down to the ground not one sign of disease and not even one sign of flower or flower to come. My garden isn't big enough for that one.
