starting pile on top of weeds?

We have recently moved to a new house with a large garden of about 50 by 50 feet. We would like to put our compost pile within the garden fence and feel we can do without one of the established beds. The beds were full of winter/ spring weeds. I have weeded almost all of them (still working). Do I have to weed the bed on which we are starting our compost pile? If not, will the heat of the compost kill them and any seeds? Would it help to put grass clipping layer on bottom? Please say I don't have to weed this are! I am so sick of pulling weeds!!!
