Deadheading roses when you have yet bud clusters on same stem

I watched a few YouTube videos on deadheading a rose. Going to the stem below it that has 5 leaves and cutting at an angle just above it. That is easy...

But my dilemma is I have buds near the rose that will need deadheading soon. I am imaging one just cuts below this spent rose leaving the other buds to bloom then go to the area with the 5 leaf stem when all are spent and prune as one normally would.

Am I correct in my thinking?

Also will I need a pruning bar for later on when I prune my rose tree? I keep reading about ones using one. Unsure what exactly it does unless it seals off the cut so it can go dormant for winter?
