I wouldn't be surprised to learn there are climbing roses that will do well for you, but I wouldn't expect to find them in a local nursery or garden center.

First -- I don't know how well Cl. Cecile Brunner does in your area -- but I do know that it is a once-bloomer, and that might not be what you want.

In a similar vein, there is Ralph Moore's 'Renae,' which repeats through the season. The link below will take you to information on it. You may be at the edge of its hardiness range. Those who are closer to your area can better advise.

As York says, most of the roses that would be recommended for your situation won't show up at a local nursery, or Lowe's, or Home Depot. But on the Renae page I've directed you to, you can click (top right) on a Buy From tab.

That will give you three good mail order sources:

Any mail order plants will be much smaller than the big hulking things you're used to in most nurseries. But the roses should be healthier in the long haul.

There are climbing roses that are repeat bloomers and you should look for those. I would recommend to start checking out Pickering nursery's website for repeat blooming climbers and then cross reference it with the very disease resistant varieties, among them climbers. When you have a list you can make a decision if you prefer to order from Palatine or Pickering - I can recommend both; Palatine will ship the biggest barer roots you have ever seen, Pickering has the biggest selection you've ever seen.

Check them out - there are more! The website is up for browsing ordering starts in late August or September. I am sure they add the varieties and Palatine also will serve up some new delicacies but until then you get familiar with the large selection already there.

thank you all for your response. i had to make a decision fast because it was the last day to order roses via mail. i called antique rose emporium in texas and they suggested this one that is in the link, so i ordered it.

i will save your list for next year when i take out the knock out roses in the back yard.
