HFGH 10 x 12 Playing in the traffic.

Although I have gleamed lots of info from this site for my HFGH this is my first post. Right now I'm looking for parts if anyone has any. Ran in to winds of 80mph over the weekend and lost some panels. They didn't go far the first time and were rescued. However, the second time someone lost them from the back of my truck and they were destroyed by traffic. I have e-mailed Harbor Freight and they are going to order for me. This forum says don't hold my breath. If anyone has any of the following please let me know.(#52 panel connectors qty 6) (#55 rear side panels qty 2) (#58 wall panels qty 2) (#63 front side panel qty 1) lost the right door as well but it never fit right from the start. Planned on building something for doors so not worried about them. Will send a pic of greenhouse with it's holes tomorrow. Thanks Ron

You need extra bags of clips, as well. We put about 3 times as many clips as called for. The clips strenghten the panels without making holes in what is a tenuous connection, in DH's humble opinion.

P.S. We've had some successes with ordering parts for other items from HO. Have patience.

Hi everybody. I originally posted this message to mudhouse's blog, not knowing how to post it here. But, now I do! So, if anyone gets this message twice, lo siento mucho. Anyway, here it is: I have a question about possible corrosion on my new, unassembled HFGH 10x12. The gravel has arrived, the foundation timbers are in place, and I'm ready to build the greenhouse. But, before I begin, I wonder if someone can enlighten me on potential electrical contact corrosion where (mudhouse's) steel "L" brackets connect the EMT to the frame, where the hold-downs meet the steel base, and where the studs also meet the base. Should I somehow insulate these contact points, perhaps with rubber? Is there actually a problem at these spots? Thanks so much. masscactus - ready to build

Hi Nancy! Although I grew up in Sonoma Co, I haven't lived there since '95. The last place was out off of Bodega Hwy, west of Sebastopol. I still have relatives in the area and my brother lives in Penngrove. I still live by vinyards as well. There is one across the street and several down the road. Sonoma Co has been sort of home base since '68. Whenever we moved , we always still had a house there. We sold completely out of the area in '95. I've been up here for about five yrs and we sold out of Ca completely last March. I still love that area, even though most of what I knew and loved is gone. Even the parts of the Palm Springs area that I loved are gone! Congrats on the length of your marrage by the way! My parents have been married for 41yrs. You don't see a lot of long marrages anymore! I don't know how much you've been following or how long. Other than being far too busy, my largest issue has been trying to cover ALL of my bases in chosing a greenhouse. I'm actually glad that I delayed one more year. It's so easy to forget, during summer, exactly how much water and snow that I get. Many close potential building sites are either far too wet or stay far too cold/frozen all winter. All of the best places are taken, by the house, barns, etc. Something's gotta give up some room!! I don't know if you read some of my earier musings. It gives some ideas that I'm wanting, worrying and fussing over! I really want the effort to go into the planning and construction, not continual repairs and climate maintenance! I want some size for the climate stability.(I'm also greedy and want the space!) Jimmydo2 THANKS for the kind words. I was thinking about you today I remember you said you would probably start on your's over the weekend. I have never built a GH before but compared to somethings that I have built the GH was not all that bad. A few years ago I wanted to put a D1-R Procharger on my Corvette and the company that builds it told me that it could not be done. When I ask why they said their engineers had not figured out a way to make it work and that if I got it to work I would not be able to put the hood on. I bought the supercharger and installed it on my vette show car and have a house full of trophies that I won with it. This makes the greenhouse seem like child's play. Getting back to the GH it did try my patience mostly because I thought that all I would have to do was assemble it and that was not the case. With all the mistakes and the modifications that needs to be done to make it survive a thunder storm it turned out to be a PITA Jimmy i didn't set the forum up for the mail but if you need to contact me I have a account at hotmail you can reach me through it. Hi All, in addition to the hfgh lesson, I had to figure out how to get back to my own post, as this was my first on gardenweb. (Great community by the way). So, It is up! The issue was the little number stickers were on the wrong panels. I tried to put the 2 front panels on the sides. after trying 2 of them, I decided to try another, and it fit. Figuring out the mistake, I thought I was in business, Get those panels installed in 30 mintues, and enjoy a glass of sweet tea. Well, 3 hours later, i finally got the last of the panel clips in. I also had a bit of a twist in the whole frame that I couldn't see, but a diagional measurement showed it. I loosened most of the nuts and gave the whole gh a shove, it went square, and the roof panels went right in. I purchases my gh on Wednesday, Started installation on Saturday, and finished Sunday night. Spare parts kit was a lifesaver, im glad they include it. Reading the forums, i decided to mount it on 4x4's that works really good, because I wanted to move it forward a few feet, I just put an eyebolt in the front 4x4 and pulled it with the lawnmower, worked like a charm. Only complaint is the doors, I seen how some people were having issues keeping them closed, well i am having issues opening them. I have adjusted the top and bottom wheels, but they are still very hard to open, thinking of adding grease. More than likely, i will take them off, and build a regular frame and a glass storm door entry. This week, I hope to get all the pvc conduit ran, lights, possibly trench a line to run some water for a small sink. I am rambling, just typing as it comes to me, but I think I should put weed barrier down first, then the electrical conduit, then probably 1.5 to 1 tons of 1/2" gravel. One other thing, the automatic roof vent openers, I decided not to get them based on reviews, instead i think i will use some pneumatic cylinders i have laying around. All said and done, me complaining about having to buy $1.25 tomatoe will cost me about $1000. Got the GH for $480 with raincheck and 20% coupon. Thanks!

LOL Took me almost a full year to get my parts for my door they never included in the box. 6-8 weeks my a$$! I wish you better luck....Barb

I bought extra clips and so far no panels blew out in storms.

Actually I removed all my clips from the roof, west and east walls. I used clear silicon caulking and it withstood 80 mph gusts on and off for 2 days with heavy rain. It's what I hadn't finished that did me in.............on the panels that blew out there was a min 8 clips per panel and some had more. A number of the clips are still attached to the frame.

I'm glad to know the prices for the panels...I never asked them what those would cost. Pretty reasonable. If only we could believe that shipping time (call me a pessimist!) If greenhouse owners weren't so at the mercy of the ever-encroaching cold weather, slow shipping wouldn't be such a deal breaker.

The line that worries me is "Please note, the part you are requesting will need to be special ordered from the Manufacture..." and, as we all know, the manufacturer is in China.

I can't believe Harbor Freight doesn't at least stock those teensy little panel connector clips (for the tall back wall panels) for quick shipment. They could store a year's worth in a shoe box, for goodness sake. Grrrr.

When I wanted parts I tried to get them to take parts from a GH kit and send them to me.
I told them that when they got the parts they could put them in and sell it.
They said we can not do that so I ordered the parts that were going to be here is 6 weeks.
I made the parts myself and finished the GH and forgot about my order.

About 18 months later UPS came with my parts they were the J clips that hold the studs to the bottom plate.

That is how we got our parts we ended up at the store and demanded they take the parts out of a box. The store manager felt bad for us waiting so long he did it. A week later the parts showed up at the door. Oh and we had to pay for the parts even though they didnt include them in the box.

Barb....good grief!!! You had to PAY for the parts that were missing from your new kit? Even after waiting a year? That is totally ridiculous. I'm really astonished!

Now I'm wondering...Gardenerwantabe, did HF make you pay for the missing J clips (that arrived 18 months too late?)

I'm sure there is a contractor in the area that has a flashing bender. I could get them to bend some stock to duplicate the panel connectors. Just don't have the time right now. When I do though they will be at least 12 inches wide so if they ever pop off again they should be easy to find. Could even make the leading edges and inch or two for greater grip or resistance. How far off is Spring again?????
