Oh yeah ....best ones you can afford. The HF openers (how can I say this without using VERY bad words) are awful ....they don't open when they should, don't close when they should. I took mine off the GH and put all 4 of them directly in the garbage. Get the good ones, you won't be sorry.....;0)...Pat

I don't want to hijack your thread, but we have a Coverstar automatic cover in Texas. We don't have to really worry about snowfall here, but we are keeping it closed. We open it on the weekend so my husband can check chems and sweep leaves that fall through gap into pool bottom (they land on the sun deck). We have changed the polaris to only run on weekends, since in theory the pool should stay pretty clean since closed. My question is -- today, I opened the pool after a storm and now that leaves are really coming down. And I was surprised how many leaves are in the pool, even with cover closed. There is a small gap where the cover's bar and the bullnose coping meet. The cover was just recently adjusted, so I don't think it can be any tighter. It could be a slight warping on the bar. Do you do anything to cover this type of gap from debris entering? I'm wondering about using window screen netting on a roll, but not sure what to secure it with on both the decking side and the cover side. We want to be able to simply open the cover in the case of a bad storm. People have told us it's better to leave it open if there is a risk of violent storm (so a limb doesn't puncture). We do have a pump to get water of the cover. This is our first year as pool owners, so we are newbies!! Thanks for the tips!! I would love to hear what other's processes for storm season and cool weather.

I have a doubt that you can kill mites at home with mild measures. Outside - it is plenty enough to control them - they have natural enemies - so you knock the amount down - the resulting damage is minimal. Inside the house - it is more or less monoculture - and no natural predators. And it is not spider mites - it is broad mites and cyclamen mites - so what works on spider mites - not necessary would work on these guys. You have a powerful weapon - prevention. If you won't introduce them yourself - they will not come into the house on their own. So - isolate all new plants for long enough time - to see if there is infection on them and do not bring cut flowers. This is as organic and ecologically correct - as it gets. If you got them - do not even bother applying half measures. Control doesn't work, you need total eradication. Modern miticides are much less toxic to the pets and humans than the stuff from days gone - we do not use DDT anymore. I brought mites from Convention. I sprayed 1 time with Forbid - and they were gone. I.

@Christopher Bird Hi, curious after you start opening it correctly by pulling the door open, have the DW starts doing the auto open again? I have the same problem with my 6 years old DW. I used to open it correctly until my DH told me that I would "break" the latch and I should push in then open, well, we now know it was the other way around! Mine is also intermittently not doing the auto open, we will now start opening it the correct way but wonder would it make the problem go away or do we eventually have to replace that parts?
