Agco (or Allis Gleaner Company), Allis Chamblers and Simplcity go way back. Allis owned Simplicty at one time and then sold it off when Duetz bought Allis. However, Simplcity continued making the garden tractors for Deutz-Allis and then Agco after Duetz sold the tractor company they deystroyed. All good tractors, all made by Simplcity.
Anyone planing on buying and Agco tractor should consider the price of replacement parts. My tractor is an ST 55. The tractor had less than 200 hours on it and the water pump went out. Agco Corp would not help so the dealer rebuilt the water pump for 200 dollars. The pump still has a noise. The Agco Company would not talk to me about the problem that could have caused the pump to go out so early. So please do your home work before buying one of these tractors.
Things change. With everything in life things change. There is no more Simplicity so to speak of anymore. The name is there yet but they(Briggs)closed the original company down. No bailout here.
Simplicityworker: This may be a moot point, but will parts still be available for Simplicity/Agco and the other Simplicity look alikes? This concerns me as I own an great Simplicity, and plan on keeping it a long time.
Windcatcher: I don't believe you will have a problem with parts. We had a lot of tooling around from way years past and even ran many parts to give them somewhat of a supply for tractors that were made years ago. With that said and the company making a transition like they are, I don't know how long they will keep tooling around before deciding they can throw it out. I was making service parts for the sunstar on the break press. With lasers and brake presses one can make a lot of the parts needed. Sorry I can't be more define for you but I believe it may get harder to find parts for the old time units but maybe only a little harder for those units made in a 8-15 year period. It all depends on how long Briggs decides they need to keep inventory on old tooling. If they don't loose it. If they know what it is for. We had people with over 40 years of expierence there and they could walk out to the shed and point to were the die has been for the last 15 years. They will continue to produce the current models and from time to time change or add new ones yet. My opinion is that Briggs would rather see more units bought because every unit also has an engine, so if it is harder to get parts for old units they might buy a new unit.
Thanks Simplicityworker. Mine is a year model 2000 Landlord DLX. I've seen some parts on mine that look identical to the newer models, so I think I'm ok there.
bckskin Simplicity was bought by Briggs & stratton in 2006 and in october 2008 was the final shutdown of the Simplicity plant in Port Washington Wisconsen With operations being Moved to other plants in the south So Simplicity is still around it just being produced at other plants now. It's a shame that briggs did that. espically since briggs corp is located in Wisconsen
Are they still good tractor & has the price come down? When we looked at them in 2004 we liked the tractor, but thought they were pricy. We bought a Husqy GTH2548 instead. Jerry
I would say they are just as good as they were in 2004 Plus they have had some improvements for instance you can now get a Prestige or a Conquest in 4WD. Though with Briggs as the Parent company you are see more Briggs engines and less kohler and other brands. But That is what simplicity used in the 1960 and 70's anyways. I personally don't own any of the new Simplicities I own a 1959 Simplicity wonder boy RER and a 1975 Simplicity 7016 Garden tractor. Well you can see the current price rangte at the link below
Just purchased a 1998 Model 1718h and I am trying to locate any accessories such as a snow plow or blower. I really like the quality in this machine and hope to get some good use. Would love tohear from other owners about any problems to look for.
