Emerald Ash Borer is here - what's next for my ash woods??

This summer they caught one of those EAB devils in a trap less than 2 miles from my house. (Genesee County, NY) My woods is probably just over half ash trees, many of them very old and handsome. Tons and tons of saplings and middle age trees as well. I assume I'm doomed.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to how quickly they will move in and take over? How quickly will my woods be gone?

What should I do? I'm thinking of perhaps doing some drastic thinning of ash to let light in, then planting different trees on the woods floor. Is this reasonable?

Should I go with the county tree seedlings for under $1 each, or should I just use seeds?

My woods is predominantly ash, but also has various maples, black cherry, linden, oak, poplar, beech, ironwood, and others. The areas with the most ash are the lowest, wettest areas. What would you recommend for replacement?

I've gotten over the shock of it, but it still makes me heartsick.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you
