Full StoryHi! I have a question for all you "tree people"! I have two of these dappled willows in my gardens, they are the tree form (grafted onto a stronger rootstock) and they are EXTREMELY overgrown. I want to prune them back significantly, how forgiving are they? I know that willows in general are very vigorous, but all the branches are fairly thick , some at least 5 inches in diameter, and they trees are are 10 feet high or more. If I just saw them off they seem like they will look like little stubs! I just afraid, I don't want them to look completely awful, but at the same time they look pretty awful already. They have no shape whatsoever-a straggly mess! I saw a picture of one online and it looked so nice, like a little ball on top of a nice straight trunk (kinda like a topiary but not). I guess what i want is your opinions, how far should I take them down? And will they fill back in quickly?
Thank you for reading my ramble! I look forward to your feedback:)
