If my neighbors only knew that I was the one

responsible for the Green Fruit Beetle infestation in my neighborhood I would be lynched. I put a thick layer of horse manure/wood shavings compost around all my fruit trees last year. One Asian Pear died of fire blight so this year I decided to plant my Zucchini seedlings in the compost where the tree had been. The soil is teeming with life, including one unwanted lifeform, green fruit beetle grubs. I have been finding an average of eight grubs in each eight inch diameter hole I have dug. Assuming the same density for the rest of the area I spread the compost, I probably have 3000 fruit beetle grubs in my composted areas. I read an article that said compost containing manure is the favorite place for fruit beetles to lay their eggs, and I guess the article was right. I can see right now I will probably loose my entire nectarine crop to fruit beetles this year. So be aware of one of the drawbacks of using compost.
